Luis Suarez forgets passport before Arsenal v Barcelona

Arsenal almost got a surprise present from Luis Suarez after the Barcelona forward left his passport at home before his team's flight to London.

Whether it was forgetfulness or subconscious nerves, unfortunately for Gunners fans, someone from the club was sent back to the Uruguayan's home to pick it up and he caught the flight with the rest of his team-mates.

The striker has been training in preparation for Barcelona's Champions League last-16 first leg match at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

Barca forwards Lionel Messi, Suarez and Neymar have scored 91 goals between them this season - Suarez has scored 41 of them.

The return leg is at the Nou Camp on 16 March.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger tried to sign Suarez from Liverpool in the summer of 2013, before the 29-year-old joined the Spanish giants for £75m a year later - and the Frenchman says he's the man to watch out for.

"Suarez is the kind of guy who manages to create that spirit in teams," said Wenger.

But Suarez isn't the first football player or manager to forget his passport - sometimes with expensive and professional ramifications...

A not-so-happy ending... The Manchester United defender was fined £140,000 after failing to make the club's US tour because he hadn't renewed his passport last July.

Robbie Savage was flying to Rio de Janeiro to work as a football pundit for the BBC during the World Cup but nearly missed his flight.

The former Premier League midfielder managed to take his wife's passport to Heathrow airport before the trip to Brazil in 2014.

Excuse? Writing on Twitter, the Welshman admitted it was the second time he'd taken his wife's passport to the airport.

In November 2013, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho dropped Eden Hazard when he was late for training after forgetting his passport before a vital Champions League match.

Excuse? The forward lost it on the way back from France after spending the weekend away visiting former teammates in Lille.

Result? Mourinho dropped him because he couldn't train with the rest of the team on the Monday before their Wednesday night match against German side Schalke.

In September 2013, Wales manager Chris Coleman couldn't travel with the rest of the team to Macedonia for a World Cup qualifier.

Result? He missed their pre-match news conference and final training session after he realised he'd lost his passport.

Solution? Instead of travelling with the team from Cardiff he had to have a new one issued and flew to Skopje via Heathrow.

Then a Manchester United player, Danny Welbeck was left red-faced after forgetting his passport before a flight to Amsterdam for their Europa League match at Ajax in February 2012.

Nani also forgot his travel documents.

Solution? Luckily England captain Wayne Rooney turned around on his way to the airport and picked up Welbeck's passport.

A minder managed to get back to Nani's house and back in time for him to catch the flight.
