  2. David Hill returns as council chief executive

    David Hill has been named as the new chief executive of South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district councils

    The current chief executive at Humber NHS Foundation Trust will replace David Buckle when he retires later this year.

    Mr Hill became chief executive for the first time at South Oxfordshire District Council in 2000. Eight years later he became chief executive at the Vale before moving north.

  8. Psychiatrist commended by police for criminal justice work

    A psychiatrist from Oxford has been commended by the chief constable of Thames Valley Police for his contribution to criminal justice in the region.

    Dr David Thurston, of Oxford City and North East Area Mental Health Team based at the Warneford Hospital, was described as an "exceptional example" to follow.

    He was instrumental in setting up what was the Mental Health Panel in 2002 to identify issues that were occurring during mental health assessment in custody.

  9. Travel latest: Delays in Swinford, Oxford and on the M40

    • There's slow traffic on the B4044 Oxford Road northbound in Swinford at The Toll Bridge junction
    • Queues are building on the A40 in both directions in Oxford between Cutteslowe Roundabout and Wolvercote Roundabout. Congestion stretching to Marston and to the Cassington Lights junction
    • And the M40 is busy northbound between J9 and J10
  10. Rusbridger backs away from Scott Trust role for 'new life in Oxford'

    Former editor of The Guardian newspaper Alan Rusbridger says he has a "fantastically interesting new life in Oxford" to look forward to - as it emerged he will no longer become the head of the Scott Trust, which owns the Guardian Media Group.

    Rusbridger was elected the next Principal of Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, in December 2014.

    In an email to Guardian staff, he said: "We all currently do our journalism in the teeth of a force 12 digital hurricane. It is surely obvious to anyone that changed circumstances will demand dramatically changed solutions."

  11. Oxford man arrested after delivery van robbery

    A 35-year-old man from Oxford has been arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen goods, after a police appeal into a delivery van robbery in Aylesbury.

    The victim, a man in his 50s, was delivering parcels when he was approached by a man at about 11:00 on Wednesday.

    The white, Fiat Ducato FedEX delivery van was found abandoned in the Six Bells public house car park in Beaumont Road, Oxford, at about 14:00. Parcels, a set of keys and the victim’s wallet had been stolen.

  12. New Southern Health governor calls for transparency at under-fire NHS trust

    There needs to be more transparency at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, its new governor said today.

    Peter Bell joined the under-fire trust, which ran the unit where Oxford teenager Connor Sparrowhawk died, following recent resignations.

  15. Russian court orders seizure of former bank boss's Henley mansion

    Russian news reports say a court in Moscow has ordered the seizure of Andrei Borodin's Park Place mansion in Henley-on-Thames, claimed to be the most expensive residence in Britain outside London.

    The mansion was bought for a reported £140m by Borodin, former head of the Bank of Moscow, who is wanted in Russia on charges of hundreds of millions of dollars of fraud.

    He says the charges are politically motivated and that he received political asylum in the UK in 2013.

  16. Five young stars become Oxford United scholars

    Five more young players have been offered places as scholars at Oxford United.

    Striker Dejon Noel-Williams is joined by defenders Matt Berry-Hargreaves and Ben Chilcott, and midfielders Rex Mannings and Albie Hopkins.

    The five join local lads Aaron Heap, Dan Carr and Nathan Baker who will make the step up from the under 16s, making it eight new scholars for the season ahead.
