Javelin thrower may become Olympic medalist eight years late
British javelin thrower, Goldie Sayers, could potentially be awarded a bronze medal for her performance in the 2008 Beijing Olympics after re-tests of samples from 14 Russian athletes who competed tested positive for doping.
Russia's Olympic Committee says it won't name the athletes, who are from three different disciplines, until their B samples have been checked. But Russian media is reporting they include 10 Olympic medallists. One of these is Mariya Abakumova who won silver in the women's Javelin in Beijing.
Goldie, who came fourth in the 2008 Olympics, told 5 live she felt she had potentially had "the greatest moment" of her life taken away from her by a drugs cheat. The athlete went on to say she is facing the prospect of accepting the Olympic medal in her kitchen if she is awarded the bronze, which is "never going to be the same" as receiving the medal at the competition.
