Bodysuit replicates struggles of an 'elderly body'

Carers in Oxfordshire have the chance to experience life as an elderly patient for themselves, thanks to a specially designed bodysuit.
The suit restricts movement with weights and straps, and is being used as part of training exercises designed to raise awareness of the restricted mobility many elderly people have when carrying out simple, everyday tasks.
Climate change making warm, wet winters 'more likely'
Climate change has greatly increased the chances of the UK experiencing the record rainfall and warmth seen in December, researchers from Oxford University and the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute say.

Scientists said greenhouse gas emissions had doubled the chances of an exceptionally warm December, and record rainfall was 50% to 75% more likely.

Male driver seriously injured in A34 crash

One male driver has sustained serious chest injuries and is being taken to hospital after several vehicles were involved in two crashes on the A34 this evening.
Three other people are also going to be taken to hospital and there are three people who are "walking wounded", South Central Ambulance Service say.
The air ambulance was called, but was stood down by the doctor on the scene.
None of the injuries are considered life threatening
'Need not Greed' housing campaign group launches
A campaign calling on housing planning decisions to be driven by "local residents' needs and protecting the rural environment", rather than economic considerations, has been launched in Oxfordshire.

Planning for Need not Greed is a coalition of more than a dozen local groups, including the Campaign to Protect Rural England, Rural Oxfordshire Action Rally, South Oxfordshire Sustainability and Bodicote at Risk.
They are calling for a reassessment of the the county's growth targets, to feature fewer new homes, jobs and people than what is being planned for at present.

A GP surgery in Banbury has been given permission from NHS England not to take on any more patients, after a steep rise in demand for appointments and a shortage of doctors.
Horsefair Surgery practice manager Andrew McHugh says pressures on GPs are making it difficult to recruit staff.

A34 collision 'a major multiple vehicle' crash

Several vehicles have been involved with two separate crashes on the A34, which has blocked the road northbound near the M40 junction.
BBC Radio Oxford listener Nicky described what she saw as she drove past on the opposite carriageway.

A quarter of a mile further down the A34 there has been a major multiple vehicle accident. There are three fire engines and a fire truck, four marked police cars, two colour cars, there are two or three ambulances plus ambulance cars.

Oxfordshire vaccine volunteers thanked as Ebola epidemic ends
Oxfordshire scientists who have developed vaccines against Ebola have thanked volunteers in the county, saying they were vital in the fight against the deadly disease.
As the World Health Organisation declared the Ebola epidemic in West Africa over, Dr Katie Ewer - a senior immunologist in the malaria and ebola vaccine trials at The Jenner Institute in Oxford - said their work wouldn't be possible without volunteers in Oxfordshire.

One lane has been reopened on the A34 northbound at Weston-on-the-Green after two crashes involving several vehicles blocked the road.
Congestion is stretching back to Botley and it is taking more than an hour to get up to the M40.

Flood alerts removed from River Ock and Letcombe Brook
Alerts remain in place for the River Thames in a number of locations in the county.
CCTV images released in connection with Oxford burglaries
Images have been released of a man police would like to speak to in connection with a series of burglaries in Oxford.
One burglary in Banbury Road happened on Wednesday 9 December, with five break-ins on Monday 11 January in Banbury Road, St Giles and Cunliffe Close.
Jewellery and cash were taken from some of the properties, while others were disturbed but no items taken.
