  4. Kygo album has 'been a long time coming'

    Kygo

Kygo's collaboration-studded debut album Cloud Nine is one of today's biggest new releases - with tracks featuring the likes of Labrinth, Tom Odell, Foxes, Rhodes, Angus and Julia Stone and John Legend.

Kygo told us he'd been working on the eclectic album for a year and a half and so is excited to "finally show everybody".

Quote Message: All these people that I've been working on this album with are people I've been looking up to, like Tom Odell and John Legend, Angus and Julia Stone from Australia, people that I've been listening to their music for many years and they've been on my wish list of people that I want to collaborate with. I'm just very happy that I'm in a place now where I have the opportunity to work with these talented people, [it's] a lot of fun for me.
Quote Message: Tom Odell is an incredible musician and piano player. That one I made over a year ago. I played it in some shows, I played it together with Tom Odell at Coachella a year ago, so I feel like it's definitely time to get that one out there. from Kygo

The producer and DJ - whose music coined the genre "tropical house" - told us he couldn't really comment on recent articles suggesting EDM is "over".

Quote Message: It's always hard to predict what's going to happen. I feel like as long as you make good music you're going to be able to travel around the world and play shows and that's what i'm trying to do. Yeah, I'm definitely making EDM music, but I feel like I can make more than that and the track I have with Labrinth, I don't think it's even EDM - it's just music. I don't really think about genres, I don't want to lock myself into a box or lane, I just make music and as long as you make good music it doesn't matter what style of music it is. from Kygo

  5. Cilla Black estate happy with Lady Gaga casting

    Lady Gaga

It's still not a joke, Lady Gaga is definitely still set to play Cilla Black in a new biopic about Dionne Warwick.

Based on Warwick's autobiography, the film will star former Destiny's Child singer LeToya Luckett as Warwick, while Danny Glover will play her father.

Now, Cilla's Black's estate have released a statement about Gaga - who won a Golden Globe for American Horror Story: Hotel - playing the singer-turned-TV host.

    They commented:

Quote Message: We think Lady Gaga is fabulous! She’s a great actress and we really look forward to seeing her portrayal.
  6. Super Furry Animals release footie anthem Bing Bong

Last week they told us it was coming, and today Super Furry Animals have released their first new music in seven years. Their new single Bing Bong is their un-official anthem for Wales' journey to Euro 2016 (the Manics have recorded the official one, watch the video on yesterday's Music News LIVE page).

The band had announced the single with the words: "Let's come together this summer, in song and let that song be BING BONG. Please await further transmissions."

You can watch the video on The Guardian website

And you can also hear a taster below, during 6 Music's Matt Everitt amusing chat with frontman Gruff Rhys all about the band's return:

  7. Ken Bruce calls Ireland going out of Eurovision 'a tragedy'

    Ken Bruce

Radio 2's Ken Bruce - a veteran Eurovision commentator if ever there was one, on his 29th (!) contest - has been chatting to our entertainment reporter in Stockholm, Helen Bushby.

He shared his verdict on Ireland being knocked out of the competition in last night's semi-final, as former Westlife star Nicky Byrne failed to secure enough points to make Saturday's final.

Quote Message: My heart goes out to him - it's a tragedy. He's a lovely guy and it was a good song; he didn't deserve to be jettisoned. Nicky's got a reputation and a following and he put them on the line, it was a risk putting himself out there. It's a terrible shame. from Ken Bruce

  9. Has Nicole Scherzinger quit Cats for X Factor..?

    BBC Newsbeat

    Nicole Scherzinger

... well, according to Andrew Lloyd Webber, yes. He says Nicole Sherzinger's dropped out of his forthcoming Broadway production of Cats to be a judge on the next UK series of The X Factor.

He's told the Economist he's "furious", saying she called him a week before rehearsals to say "she's decided to do X Factor".

Nicole appeared on The X Factor in 2012, but the show has told Newsbeat "discussions are still ongoing" about the next judging panel which will be revealed "shortly".

Not mentioning X Factor, Nicole told Newsbeat the Cats contract was "never finalised".

She added: "I adore and respect Andrew, I'm so grateful for our friendship and can't wait for the opportunity to create more magic together."

  12. From Rihanna to U2: the music publicity stunts that backfired

    Rihanna

After all the excitement about Yacht's sextape stunt, non-apology and then real apology this week, BBC Music got to thinking about other publicity stunts gone wrong.

From Rihanna's notorious 777 tour and promo trip (when she invited 150 journalists to accompany her to seven club gigs in seven days in seven countries with disastrous consequences) to U2 dumping their (hugely unwanted it turns out) album into everyone's iTunes account, there was plenty to think about.

  16. Azealia Banks responds to silencing by Twitter

    Twitter account suspended screengrab

Rapping mouthpiece Azealia Banks who, earlier this week, wrote racist criticism of Zayn Malik before launching into a tirade against the UK grime scene, had her account suspended by Twitter on Thursday.

She has since written a response on Instagram claiming that having "insulted Indians, Pakistanis and black folk" she was only silenced when she made some comments about "whiteness being a mental illness" that she was removed.

  17. Diplo thinks David Guetta track sounds like Lean On

Diplo doesn't seem to be too fond of David Guetta's new Euro 2016 anthem This One's For You, which is out today featuring Zara Larrson.

He's called French EDM star Guetta "corny" and accused him of ripping off his huge Major Lazer track with DJ Snake, Lean On.

According to NME, DJ Snake tweeted that Guetta had made a "Fake Lean On", before Diplo later agreed saying: "I hope the kids realise we always try to innovate and it's easy for David Guetta to whatever in a quest for relevancy."

He later deleted his tweets but then posted: "I respect my elders but when they straight jack us it's clap back season", complete with several corn emojis, suggesting that Guetta's music is "corny".

  18. Unseen pre-fame Amy Winehouse photos released

    BBC Newsbeat

    Amy Winehouse

Unseen photos of Amy Winehouse as a 19-year-old, taken before the release of her debut album Frank and her battles with drink and drugs, have been released by photographer Charles Moriarty.

After spending more than a decade in a drawer at his London home, the shots from 2003 form his new collection, Before Frank.

He explained why he wanted to share them:

Quote Message: She's so at ease with the camera that the photos are so natural and she looks amazing. I want people to look at them and see Amy for who she was before she became a star. They just give off a resounding openness, honesty and happiness. The photos make me laugh. We were 21 and 19 and some are so silly but there's also a slight bittersweet feeling to it. from Charles Moriarty

    Invictus Choir

Gareth Malone and The Choir for the Invictus Games have released their charity single Flesh and Blood - after performing it at the opening ceremony in Orlando.
