Audience for EU debate 'small but passionate'
Andrew Sinclair
BBC Look East political correspondent
It may have been a small audience, but the 30 or so people who came along to BBC Radio 5 live's EU debate in Ipswich today were certainly passionate.
BBCCopyright: BBC
After questions about immigration, whether human rights would be eroded by leaving the EU, and how there was very little "light" coming from both sides, the debate really came alive when June Mummery, from Lowestoft, raised the plight of the region's fishing industry.
Other members of the audience barracked her as she accused people of not caring about the industry.
The panelists struggled to make themselves heard above the din. Presenter Nicky Campbell cut to the news headlines but the shouting continued. When 5 live rejoined us five minutes later they were still arguing.
If we learnt nothing else today, we learnt that the public are now getting in this debate and some of them feel very passionate about it.
