Man charged after Hitchin knife attack
A man has been charged with grievous bodily harm after a woman was attacked with a knife while out walking with a friend in Hitchin.

The woman, in her 20s and from Luton, was on Oughtonhead Common at 16:50 on 4 June when she was attacked. She required stitches for what police describe as a "superficial wound".
A 49-year-old man will appear at Hatfield Remand Court on 9 June.

Police say a man who suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder, a man with a stab wound to the abdomen, and another who sustained a head injury have all been released from hospital.

"Daniela was a beautiful daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend and is dearly missed by so many," a tribute to 18-year-old Daniela Ruggiero reads.
"A day would never pass where you would not see Daniela dancing, talking or studying dance as she had so much passion for dance. It was dance or nothing.
"When we received the devastating news about what happened on 15 October 2013, our world fell apart.
"We visit her grave every day. We will never ever come to terms with or accept that Daniela will never be with us again here on earth and our pain and suffering will go on forever."

The family of 17-year-old Charlotte Dove who died in a car crash on the A10 near Standon have spoken of how "truly blessed" they were to have such a "beautiful, talented" young lady in their lives.
Charlotte was travelling with friend Daniela Ruggiero, 18, in October 2013 when they hit a deer and stopped the car. They were then hit from behind by another car, causing them to become trapped in their car, which caught fire.
In a tribute released by Hertfordshire Police, Charlotte's family say: “Words cannot begin to express how devastated we are. Our hearts have been shattered into a million pieces, and at times it is almost unbearable to live with.
"They say time is a great healer, but we feel this truly is not the case as each day passes we miss her more.
"Life will never be the same again, but we just have to find the strength to keep going and we do this to honour her.”
Man hospitalised after shop sign falls on head
The Comet is reporting a 29-year-old man has been taken to hospital after a shop sign fell on his head in Stevenage.
Shanon Loveridge, 22, of Watford Road, St Albans, was found not guilty of the charges against her after direction from the judge at St Albans Crown Court.
The case against her husband Johnny Moloney, 30, continues. He denies knowingly holding a person in slavery or servitude and knowingly requiring another person to perform forced labour.

Man killed in A1 crash named by police

A man who died after crashing on the A1 near Peterborough has been named by police as Jabed Hussain, of Abbey Drive, Luton.
The 46-year-old was driving a blue Toyota Corolla when it left the northbound carriageway and struck a tree at 21:00 on Thursday.
Cambridgeshire Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the vehicle travelling along the A1 in the run up to the crash.

Police have said the case of Luiz Rocker, who crashed into a car on the A10 in Hertfordshire, causing the death of two young women, "highlights the serious consequences of failing to be alert".

Rocker, 48, of Ware, crashed into the car that Daniela Ruggiero, 18, and Charlotte Dove, 17, were travelling in after they stopped due to hitting a deer. They became trapped in the car and it burst into flames. They died at the scene.
Hertfordshire Police's Sgt Richard Cruse said Rocker had 5.8 seconds to react to the crash but he "failed to" which led to "the untimely death of two young women".
Man tried to steal duck from St Albans lake

Police say a man was seen trying to take a duck from Verulamium Lake in St Albans in a carrier bag.
At about 11:15 on 5 June, a woman challenged a man who was seen putting a young mallard into a bag and then walking towards the car park with another woman.
The man eventually returned the bird to the lake, police say, before verbally abusing the woman.
It is an offence to take, kill or injure wild birds. Hertfordshire Police say they "take incidents of this type extremely seriously".

Headteacher of Ardley Hill Academy, Jonathan Smith, says the plan is that from next week, pupils and staff will move to the Brewer's Hill Middle School site - which currently has 50 pupils and is due to close in July.

Ardley Hill Academy: The clean-up is under way

I'm at Ardley Hill Academy in Dunstable, where the clean-up is under way following last week's flooding.
The school will not be able to reopen before the summer holidays as during last Tuesday's flash floods, rainwater mixed with waste from overflowing drains came under doorways and up through sinks.
All the furniture and flooring will need to be removed so specialist equipment can dry the concrete floor before new flooring can be laid and rooms redecorated - the whole process will take at least six weeks.
Head Jonathan Smith said he must find alternative school places for 450 pupils, aged 4-11, until September. Central Bedfordshire Council has said it is helping to "identify options".
