1,000 children invited begin first chapter of reading journey
One thousand school children are taking part in a city wide readathon across Oxford tomorrow.
They'll all meet in Blackbird Leys to read and share their favourite books and poems.
It's being organised by Reverend Tom Shaw, assistant chaplain at St Edward's church, who says reading has a positive impact on every area of a young person's life.

Art lovers in Abingdon captivated by harpist's harmonies at church
An Oxfordshire man has been honoured by the prime minister for his work to raise awareness of Parkinson's disease.
Alex Flynn, from Goring-on-Thames, was diagnosed with the disease in 2008, aged 36.
He has since pushed his mind and body to the limit in a series of fundraising challenges - including a ‘Ten Million Metre Challenge’ running, climbing, cycling and kayaking from Santa Monica to New York City in 35 days.

Jo Cox held senior roles at the Oxford-based charity for seven years.
They happened in Deddington and Clifton. In both cases the offenders got away with mostly jewellery - after smashing their way into the properties through a rear window.

A 13-year-old girl from Banbury has been charged with assault by beating after a fight in a park in the town last month.
The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested on 16 May after she allegedly attacked a 12-year-old girl the day before.
She was charged on 10 June and is due to appear at Banbury Magistrates’ Court on 30 June.

Tesco gets go-ahead to redevelop former Goring pub
Plans to turn a former pub in south Oxfordshire into a Tesco Express store have been approved by the district council.
The Queen's Arms in Goring-on-Thames has been vacant for nearly three years.
Since then, campaigners have been trying to fight plans to turn it into a supermarket, claiming it would be dangerous and unsuitable for the area.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man exposed himself to three young girls on two occasions in and around Betjeman Park in Wantage.
The incidents happened yesterday at about 08:20.
The suspect is white, 5ft 8in tall, of large build, in his early 30s and with brown hair. He was wearing grey jogging trousers and a grey zip up hoody top.

An MP who was shot and stabbed this afternoon in Yorkshire spent seven years working for the Oxford-based charity Oxfam.
Jo Cox was the head of the charity's EU office, head of policy and head of humanitarian campaigning between 2002 and 2009.
She is said to be in a critical condition. A 52-year-old man has been arrested, police say.
