  2. Headlines: Junior doctors strike, Hillsborough verdict and Austin Reed goes into administration

    The headlines from our newsroom in York include:

    • For the first time in their history junior doctors have walked out of A and E, intensive care and maternity services. They're striking over a row about contracts which are going to be imposed on them. 
    • The 96 football fans who died in the Hillsborough disaster were unlawfully killed. That's what an inquest jury has concluded after hearing 2 years of evidence. 
    • Austin Reed has called in adminstrators, putting more than a thousand jobs and 150 shops at risk including one in York and Harrogate.

    The fashion retailer Austin Reed has called in adminstrators, putting more than a thousand jobs and 150 shops at risk including one in York and Harrogate.

    The business also has a customer service centre in Thirsk.

  4. Watch: Junior doctors outside York Hospital

    Junior doctors are staging their first all out strike in the history of the NHS.

    The dispute over pay and conditions has escalated after the Health Secretary ruled he would impose a new contract against their wishes.

    I've been to speak to Dr Vera Mirdavoudi, who is one of a group of doctors protesting outside York hospital.

  6. Extraordinary new look planned for ‘eyesore’ Stonebow House

    One of York’s most controversial buildings, Stonebow House, is to be reborn in gold and glass.

    What was built as a concrete monument to Sixties brutalist architecture will be transformed to create a building developers say will “enhance the eastern gateway to the city centre”.

  7. Tour de Yorkshire: bunting a-plenty

    Bunting suppliers are having another good year.

    The first stage of the Tour de Yorkshire on Friday sets off from Beverley and then speeds through North Yorkshire.

    As it crosses the county it'll briefly grace the market town of Pately Bridge in Nidderdale.

    From these pics it looks like the town is prepared.

  8. Scarborough mini reptile house

    Jordan Woodhead  has been given permission to keep three more rare reptiles at his home in Scarborough.

    Jordan already has a 14ft python, a snapping turtle, and a bearded dragon. 

    But now he has been given a licence for another trio including an American alligator and a Siamese crocodile!

  9. Listen: Bootham Hospital, a patient's view

    Following the news there's been more than 100 hospital admissions to Middlesbrough Hospital from people with mental health problems who would have been treated in York, one former patient told me about the impact the closure had on her and people she knows.

  12. York Floods: Inquiry to take more than six months

    An independent inquiry into flooding in York over Christmas will take more than six months to report back.

    The inquiry is to look at how the city council and other agencies coped with the floods and how information was provided to residents.

    It will be chaired by Angharad Davies, a self-employed barrister.

    Hundreds of homes and businesses were flooded in the city after the Rivers Foss and Ouse burst their banks in December.

    Here are the latest headlines from our York Newsroom:

    • For the first time in the history of the NHS, doctors across North Yorkshire are on strike and will provide no emergency care
    • There've been more than 100 hospital admissions to Middlesbrough of mental health patients who would have been treated in York after the city's Bootham Park psychiatric hospital closed, figures obtained by the BBC show
    • With just days to go now until the Tour De Yorkshire riders are starting to arrive in the county ahead of the event which starts on Friday
  14. Traffic and Travel: Long delays at Ormesby Bank

    There's queuing traffic and long delays on A171 Ormesby Bank in both directions between the A174 junction and the A1043 junction, because of an earlier broken down vehicle.

  16. Riccall schoolchildren design Tour de Yorkshire T-shirts

    Excitement is building in villages along the route of the Tour de Yorkshire in North Yorkshire

    At Riccall Primary School they've held a competition to design t-shirts especially for the race.

    The first stage of the race on Friday sets off from Beverley and enters North Yorkshire for the first time at Cawood.

    It'll continue on to Tadcaster, Knaresborough, Ripley, Pateley Bridge, Grassington, Gargrave, before finishing in Settle.
