Shell fishing rights being decided by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court is deciding in a long-running dispute over whether fishermen from King's Lynn can fish from a seabed in The Wash.
A group led by Lynn Shellfish Ltd claims they're taking cockles lawfully from a disputed territory, which includes a private fishery.
Despite losing in court twice already, the King's Lynn fishermen are hoping the latest 'battle of The Wash' will go in their favour.
Norfolk heritage scheme set to benefit from funding for open days

A scheme which unlocks Norfolk's hidden heritage says it's to benefit from new funding after Heritage Open Days won £150,000 from the People's Postcode Lottery.

For four days each September, access is given to thousands of places, many of which are kept closed to the public, with entry free of charge.
Norfolk rates as the second-busiest county in England with over 300 heritage open day events taking place in 2015.
A11 re-opened following earlier accident
The A11 is fully open following an earlier accident, according to Norfolk police.
'Men NOT at work' signs appear at site of road scheme
Unauthorised road signs have appeared at Horsford where new roadworks are taking place in connection with the the construction of the Northern Distributor Road.

It seems some are sceptical about the amount of work being done, with one sign reading "Caution: Work NOT in progress".
The county council says the road works will take two years to complete and is asking people to be patient.

The Mid-Norfolk MP has entered the debate over devolution for East Anglia by asking business leaders in Cambridgeshire to lobby the county council to join the bid being proposed by Norfolk and Suffolk.
George Freeman is concerned that if Cambridgeshire doesn't link up to its surrounding counties, the "massive potential" which the east has to offer could be lost.
Cambridgeshire turned down the offer to form a combined authority last month.
A11 closed between Wymondham and Norwich

BBC Travel is reporting that the A11 is closed northbound between Wymondham and Norwich, due to an accident.
UEA given more 'drinking time'
The students' union at the University of East Anglia has been given permission to extend the hours it can sell alcohol.

Could shark be heading for 'virgin births'?

A female shark that has not been in male company for more than two years has laid two fertile eggs, according to Great Yarmouth Sea Life Centre.

The white spotted bamboo shark was moved to her present home from the chain's Hunstanton aquarium in December 2013, and the centre believes the eggs are a result of a rare asexual process.
“Females somehow manage to add an extra set of chromosomes to their eggs to produce offspring which are either clones or half-clones of themselves," a spokesman said, adding that such births were first recorded in sharks in 2008.
Junior doctors' strike leads to cancelled appointments at Norfolk hospitals
A total of 277 appointments and procedures have been cancelled at Norfolk's three main hospitals due to the junior doctors' strike.

Queen Elizabeth junior doctors (pictured) are taking part in a second national strike, in protest over a new government contract.
The advice from all the hospitals is that seriously ill patients should go to accident and emergency departments, but otherwise people should see their GP or call the NHS non-emergency 111 service.
Man in custody after 'a number of people' threatened with knife
A man has been arrested after a number of people were said to have been threatened with a knife.

Police were called out yesterday afternoon to reports of a disturbance in Woodcock Road, Norwich.
A 43-year-old man from the Norwich area was arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody.
The owner of a pub that claims it was forced to remove foie gras from its menu after receiving death threats from "vegan activists" says its staff were very scared.
Mark Dixon, owner of The King's Arms pub at Fleggburgh, contacted police after receiving nearly 1,000 messages on the telephone and via Facebook.
The dish, made of livers from force-fed geese, has now been taken off the menu.

The remains of a minke whale have washed up on the beach at Sheringham, after being spotted at Weybourne 12 hours earlier.
It was initially thought to be the body of a giant squid due to the level of decomposition.
Norfolk cetacean recorder Carl Chapman says the carcass is a dead minke that washed up at Salthouse some time ago and was moved a couple of miles along the coast to Weybourne by the tide.
Pub foie gras 'threats': Police taking no further action
Police have confirmed they received a call about alleged threats to staff at a Fleggburgh pub which had been planning to serve foie gras on its Valentine's tasting menu.

The King's Arms says it has had to withdraw the pate from its menu after staff received a number of telephone death threats and from "vegan activists".
Norfolk police said it had received a call about the matter but that "it would not be investigated further as no direct threats have been made."
