  1. Volunteers' Week: Day 12

    So today was the last day of Volunteers' Week. How has it been for you? Have you been up to great things? If so, tell us about it using the #DoSomethingGreat hashtag or email dosomethinggreat@bbc.co.uk

    Here's a summary of some of the season highlights and how you have got involved so far. 

    Springwatch and Springwatch Unsprung

    • It's been a great period for nature volunteering with the National Garden Bioblitz and #2minutebeachclean day, both of which were supported by Springwatch. And you really got stuck into both events - big time! Totally impressive.

    • Springwatch has also had tonnes of ideas about small things you can do to make your garden more wildlife friendly. Like creating a miniature water feature - it may be tiny but it's perfect for a king(fisher)! Find out how easy it is to do here:

    • While Unsprung has been celebrating Unsprung Heroes - volunteers who have done outstanding things to help the great outdoors. Like grandfather and grandson, Nicholas and Tim Watts, who are creating a haven for wildlife. Martin Games-Hughes met them...

    Countryfile 

    • Countryfile ran two volunteering stories - one about a great Osprey project in Wales - Bedri, 10, can tell you why it's important.

    Gardeners' World 

    • The go-to show for gardening inspiration did a Do Something Great special focusing on the volunteers who help keep gardens magnificent and open for visitors, as well as getting some gardening tips themselves.

    DIY SOS 

    • DIY SOS - which always relies on the kindness of strangers to help a family in need - focused on the volunteers themselves in their latest episode, as well as the plight of ex-fireman Joe and his daughter Lucy. There was a silver army made up of volunteers' from Men's Sheds, as well the the usual purple one, rising to the challenge.  
    • The episode really touched people's hearts.

    The Sky at Night

    Saturday Live 

    • The Radio 4 show Interviewed Mary Harmer - a referee and referee coach at Suffolk FA with ambitions to be the first female referee in the premiership. She also volunteers, going back to her old school to inspire the next generation with charity Future First.

    Local regions 

    • There was a volunteering bonanza across the country with the BBC regional stations running fab stories of inspiring volunteers, talking about not just the great things that they do, but what they get out of it too. Here are two of our favorites.

    Murphy the volunteering dog, who makes a difference on hospital wards in Gloucestershire...

    • When the BBC marked Music Day on the 3rd of June they celebrated the work of 5 volunteers who had made an outstanding contribution to their community. Check out their stories here

    Still to come 

    Volunteers' Week may be over, but there is lots more programming to get you in the volunteering mood coming up... 

    • Springwatch and Unsprung continue until the 17th of June 
    • On the 19th Lifeline runs an appeal with Alison Steadman for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, who are in need of money to train volunteers to do bee walks. 
    • In July there's a big BBC One series on the work of volunteers from the RNLI, who provide a vital rescue service around Britain's shores. It's nail-biting stuff.

    • Later in the year BBC Sport will be opening nominations for their Unsung Heroes of sports volunteering 2016, with the winner announced at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year event in December.  Watch out for the launch of their nominations on the Get Inspired index page.
    • Radio 1's #1MillionHours campaign, which aims to get young people to pledge their time to make a difference continues until the end of the year.   
    • Autumnwatch will be back in - guess what - the autumn, with a round up of all the fabulous things you've been up to over the summer to make a difference.
    • And don't forget - all the programmes mentioned in the round up will be up on iplayer to catch-up on for around 26 days. Just follow the programme links.

    It's been fab reading all your #DoSomethingGreat stories - keep on sending them in.

  6. Scott Allen - South West Unsung Hero 2015

    Scott Allen, South West Unsung Hero 2015

    Scott Allen, a marathon runner who set up his own club after having open heart surgery and having to learn to walk again, was chosen as the 2015 BBC South West Unsung Sporting Hero award.

    He set up Storm Running Club in Plymouth in April and numbers have already reached 300 members.

    The club's aim is to get people more active and many of the members had never ran before joining Storm.

  7. Colin Lee - East of England Unsung Hero 2015

    Colin Lee, East of England Unsung Hero 2015

    Colin Lee, of Northampton-based football team Thorplands Club 81, won the 2015 BBC East Unsung Hero Award.

    The 76-year-old, still registered as a player, is general secretary of all 10 teams and responsible for organising all training sessions and weekly matches for around 140 members.

  8. Alec Davies - West Midlands Unsung Hero 2015

    Continuing our series of Unsung Heroes from BBC Sport here's another volunteer who has gone the extra mile (ho, ho) to support sport in his local community.

    Alec Davies, West Midlands Unsung Hero 2015

    Alec Davies has been the timekeeper for Worcester St John's cycling club for 43 years.

    The 92-year-old from Worcester, is out on the roads in all weathers to officiate at club meetings, and assists in national meetings at weekends. 

    He has also previously served as an official for British Cycling.

  10. Volunteers' Week: Day 11

    Confusing, I know, but Volunteers' Week is actually 12 days this year. 

    It's been especially extended to include the Patrons' Lunch tomorrow, marking the Queen's 90th birthday.

    Are you organising a tea party to celebrate in your community tomorrow? Let us know - informal volunteering (giving help to local people, projects and events that aren't formally connected to an organisation) counts as doing something great too!   12. Dawn Davies - London Unsung Hero 2015

    Dawn Davies, London Unsung Hero 2015

    Dawn Davies was chosen as the Unsung Hero for the London region for her work with Guildford Saints Football Club.

    She dedicates over 30 hours per week to the club in her role as club secretary.

    Guildford Saints, recognised by the Football Association as a Charter Standard club, provides football coaching for 25 teams, containing over 300 players, including boys, girls, ladies and pan-disability groups.

  13. Damien Lindsay - Northern Ireland Unsung Hero 2015

    Damien Lindsay, Northern Ireland Unsung Hero 2015

    St James Swifts football coach Damien Lindsay won the Northern Ireland BBC Get Inspired Unsung Hero award for 2015.

    Damien formed the west Belfast club, which has helped to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area.

  14. Pete Harris - East Midlands Unsung Hero 2015

    With the England game tonight our Unsung Heroes have a football theme today.

    Pete Harris, East Midlands Unsung Hero 2015

    Pete coaches three teams at Ibstock United Football club, has founded a regional futsal league, as well as setting up a team for children with disabilities.

    Giving up his free time nearly every day, Pete also looks after child protection, safety and coaching standards at his club, and has won the FA Charter Standard Club of the Year in four of the last five seasons.

  19. Volunteering to earn credit tokens

    Some volunteering schemes involve an exchange for the time volunteered.  In time-banking schemes members swap skills and help by the hour.  In time-credit schemes volunteered time can be exchanged for time spent at the gym or a local theatre, for example. It can be an effective way of getting more disenfranchised communities involved. 

    Paul told Radio Solent what a difference volunteering and earning credits has made to his life.
