  3. Watch: West Yorkshire Police under fire for lack of enforcement of alcohol-free zone

    West Yorkshire Police is coming under fire over claims there is insufficient enforcement of an alcohol-free zone. 

    The problem is in Dewsbury town centre, where street-drinkers are congregating in large numbers. 

    Gary Gordon is a member of the Dewsbury Pioneers, a group which is trying to revitalise the area. He says this really isn't helping:

  8. West Yorkshire Police launch cyber-crime campaign

    A week-long campaign's beginning in West Yorkshire to warn people of the dangers of cyber-crime. It's being run by the county's police force and its police and crime commissioner.

    Police officers are warning that crime is changing, and people can take simple steps to protect themselves. 

    The campaign will stress cyber-crime isn't all about hacking, it can be simpler, but equally serious offences, such as  threatening messages being posted online.

  9. Woman sexually assaulted in Halifax

    Detectives in Halifax are appealing for information following a sexual assault on a woman on Saturday afternoon.

    A 19-year-old woman was walking alone through Shroggs Park when she was approached from behind by an unknown male who sexually assaulted her. When she turned around and asked what he was doing, he exposed himself before running off.

    The suspect is described as a white male in his late teens to early 20s, around 5ft 5in tall and of skinny build. He had a gaunt face, pale skin and spoke with a local accent.

  10. Police praise football fans after Bradford City defeat

    West Yorkshire police have praised football fans after yesterday's League One play-off between Bradford City and Millwall at Valley parade. 

    In total, officers made two arrests but say the fixture was largely good-natured and enjoyable.

    Bradford lost the game 3-1.

  11. Watch: Jack Laugher & Chris Mears win gold at European Championships

    British divers Jack Laugher and Chris Mears, who lives in Leeds, won 3m synchronised springboard gold to continue the hosts' incredible European Championships in London.

    The pair scored 456.81 to finish ahead of Russia (445.23) and Ukraine (439.86).

    Earlier, Tonia Couch and Georgia Ward secured silver and bronze medals respectively in the individual 10m platform final.

    Already the North section winners, Frankie Bunn's side were 2-1 victors over Sheffield United in the play-off final.

    West Yorkshire's police and crime commissioner is defending the way an alcohol-free zone is being enforced in the centre of Dewsbury.

  16. From the darkside: Thousands of pounds worth of Star Wars memorabilia stolen

    Thousands of pounds worth of Star Wars memorabilia have been stolen in a break-in at a house in Dewsbury. 

    The burglary happened in Moor Park Garden, while the occupants were away. 

    The Star Wars collection includes village sets, vehicles, characters and main ships with fighter figures inside, along with around 300 character figurines, many of them still in their boxes. 

    Police are appealing for anyone who sees them for sale to come forward.
