NFU Mutual plan to close Cardiff office puts 60 jobs at risk

Nearly 60 jobs are at risk after a rural insurer announced plans to close its head office in Wales.

NFU Mutual has proposed closing its regional centre in Cardiff and relocating the services to Bristol.

Customer services director Steve Bower said it is part of plans to restructure NFU Mutual's nine regional service centres.

A 45-day consultation period is under way with the 58 affected employees.

"Unfortunately, subject to consultations, this proposal involves the closure [of] the regional service centre in Cardiff, relocating its claims and underwriting functions to our Bristol office," he said.

"Our proposal is in no way a reflection of staff performance and we would hope to support as many people as possible to consider redeployment to our service centre in Bristol."

NFU Mutual was established in 1910 by the National Farmers Union to offer insurance to the industry, before expanding its market to those outside of farming in the late 1990s.
