  7. Police incident in Halifax ends

Just an update on the police incident we bought you earlier from the Halifax Courier. Police cordoned off an area on Ovenden Way, where a man was thought to have brandished a gun and a sword at armed police. The situation has now ended peacefully.

    Ovenden Way

West Yorkshire Police say the man's been arrested after officers forced their way into a house.

A force spokesman told BBC Radio Leeds he was found lying on the floor and taken to hospital to be assessed. No shots were fired during the confrontation.

  8. Tram-train route proposal

So MPs in Leeds have been discussing how to move the city's transportation system forward.

We've had the tram, then the trolleybus (both now consigned to history) but how about the tram-train? That's the latest suggestion to spend the £173m set aside to develop Leeds' infrastructure.

Greg Mullholland, one of the MPs involved today has just released this picture of a possible route. You can read the full proposal here.

  9. Travel update: Lane blocked on A1(M) at J42 southbound

    BBC Travel

I was just thinking to myself that the Friday bank holiday rush was going smoothly. Then I get reports of queuing traffic and one lane blocked on the A1(M) southbound between J42 (A63 Selby fork) and J41 (M62, Knottingley), because of a broken down car and caravan.

    Here's the scene at J41.

Who says that police officers suffer from a sense of humour bypass?

It's a trend that has gone viral after an American basketball team did it a month ago. You have to say, they're pretty good!

  12. Your comments: Transport for Leeds

    Nick Wilmshurst

    BBC Local Live, Leeds

A bit ago I told you about MPs meeting in Leeds to discuss whether the city could get a Tram Train system.

Earlier this month, the government scrapped the trolley bus scheme, leaving £173m to spend on transport. A tram train system would run on existing rail tracks.

I asked what you thought to our transport system

Quote Message: More buses on all routes and an Oyster-style card scheme would be money better spent." from Gilly Langley Leeds

Quote Message: £173m barely covers consultancy fees and surveying for major infrastructure schemes these days, only viable option is to use it to encourage more people to use the bus through more frequent services, new routes and subsidising fares." from Graham Walker

  13. 'Southern' accents replacing dialects, language app finds

Just spotted this story from our southern friends at the BBC in Cambridgeshire. It can't be true?!

Apparently, according to researchers, distinctive regional accents appear to have declined since the 1950s with more people now sounding like "southerners".

    Flat cap

Results from 30,000 users of the English Dialects app have been analysed by developers at Cambridge University.

People from 4,000 locations answered questions about the pronunciation of words such as "scone".

Initial results showed more people now speak with accents similar to those in London and the south-east of England.

    Leeds buses

Greg Mulholland, Leeds North West Lib Dem MP, is due to meet other ministers in Leeds today to discuss proposals for a tram-train for the city.

Earlier this month, the government scrapped the city's proposed trolleybus scheme, which has been developed over the last decade. It leaves £173m to spend on transport .
