  5. Travel update: Delays on the eastbound A58(M) at A660 Blackman Lane

    Queuing traffic on the eastbound A58(M) in Leeds at A660 Blackman Lane, due to an earlier broken down vehicle, and congestion is now backing up on A660 Blenheim Walk to the St Mark's Road junction.

  6. Human remains found at West Yorkshire nature reserve

    A post mortem examination has been held on human remains found at a West Yorkshire nature reserve. 

    West Yorkshire Police say a member of the public found a number of small bones at the Washlands Nature Reserve in Wakefield. 

    A force spokesman said officers spent a day making enquiries at the scene after the bones were found yesterday morning. 

    Detailed examinations confirmed the bones were human, the spokesman said, and enquiries are ongoing. 

    The results of the post mortem examination were inconclusive.

  7. Police want your help naming latest four-legged recruit!

    Police are calling for the help of us Yorkshire folk to choose a name for the latest addition to their mounted section.

    West Yorkshire Police’s newest four-legged recruit, a four-year-old shire-cross gelding, joins the likes of Ledston, Ilkley and Breeze at the stables in Carr Gate.

    Members of the public are being invited to get their thinking caps on and come up with a West Yorkshire Themed name for the as yet unnamed horse.

    A woman from West Yorkshire has been describing how a series of blunders by Pontefract Hospital, led to the death of her baby.

    She's spoken out, as figures obtained by BBC Radio Leeds show that last year hospital trusts in Yorkshire paid out more than £31m in compensation for negligent maternity care.

  10. Watch: 'Pedal for Pounds' riders back in the saddle

    The legs will be aching but the Huddersfield Town 'Pedal for Pounds' challenge riders are back in the saddle today. 

    It's day two for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance fundraiser and the cyclists are tackling 58 tough miles between Lancaster and Liverpool. 

    BBC Radio Leeds' Huddersfield Town commentator, Paul Ogden is among the riders.

  11. Listen: Doherty excited by new challenge as coach

    Leeds Carnegie winger David Doherty is to become Harrogate's director of rugby next season.  

    The ex-Sale Sharks and Wasps winger, who has amassed 49 tries in 107 games during two spells with Carnegie, was told he would not be offered a new deal with the Championship high-fliers for 2016-17.

    Doherty, who is 29-years-old, told BBC Radio Leeds he's excited by the new challenge as coach.

  12. CCTV appeal after man with dog threatens Halifax station staff

    A CCTV image has been released of a man with a dog following an incident of threatening behaviour at Halifax railway station.

    British Transport Police say the man abused members of ticket office staff at Halifax station on Monday 4 April at about 1115. He then singled out a male member of staff and threatened him with violence. 

    The man had light brown hair and a dog.

He then singled out a male member of staff and threatened him with violence, leaving him extremely shaken and fearing for his safety.   13. Otley children go out of this world with Tim Peake

    There's been a truly space-age experience for children at one West Yorkshire school today as they made an interstellar link-up with British astronaut Tim Peake.

    It took place at Ashfield Primary School in Otley, and saw pupils talk to Tim live as the International Space Station (ISS) passed above Yorkshire. 

    The link with the ISS was the culmination of a two-day, space-related workshop which rounded-up a large range of learning activities using space as a context for teaching throughout the curriculum.
