  2. Wakefield Council to spend £1.5m repairing former Crown Court building before selling it off

    Wakefield councillors are deciding what to do with the city's historic former Crown Court building.

    It was placed on Historic England’s "at risk" register in 2013 after falling into disrepair.

    The authority's being recommended to carry out £1.5m worth of repairs - to make it waterproof and weathertight - before selling it off.

    Fine at first this evening, becoming increasingly cloudy from the east.

    Minimum temperature of about 7C (45F). Light or moderate northeast wind.

    We'll see bright spells at first tomorrow but it will cloud over with rain spreading from the east. Much cooler with a maximum temperature of about 11C (52F). Moderate northerly wind.

    A distraught young woman raced home to find her Huddersfield house badly damaged by fire.

    She was alerted to a fire in Luck Lane, Marsh, today and raced back to find fire crews tackling a blaze at her home and two others.

  7. Listen: Would you visit Turkey, Egypt or Tunisia for your summer holiday?

    The Tunisian ambassador to the UK, Nabil Ammar, is urging the Foreign Office to change its guidance to British tourists, which has cautioned against all but essential travel to the country following last year's terror attacks.

    He says the country's economy has been affected but the Foreign Office says safety is its main concern.

    Egypt and Turkey are also off the list of destinations, according to research by travel company, GFK, because of security fears.

  9. Olympic action in Bradford and Leeds

    Bradford and Leeds are among eight cities confirmed as Official Team GB FanZones for this summer's Rio Olympics

    They'll show live coverage from the Games on the big screens - in City Park in Bradford and Millennium Square in Leeds.

    Entry to the Fanzone will be free tand there will also be the opportunity for people to learn more about how they can get fit and in shape by joining in some of the Olympics sports that are on show in Brazil this August.

  11. Travel update: A58 Godley Lane, in Halifax, is partially blocked

    The A58 Godley Lane, in Halifax, is partially blocked and traffic is very slow in both directions between Stump Cross and the New Bank junction, due to an an accident involving two vehicles which has left debris on the road.

  12. Fears over new Leeds homes scheme

    Hundreds of homes could be built in Churwell if council planners give the go-ahead to new proposals.

    Applicant Persimmon Homes and Priestgate Morley Limited have lodged outline plans to redevelop farmland off Victoria Road in Churwell into up to 550 houses.

  13. Chelsea Flower Show: A very Yorkshire garden

    The tourism organisation, Welcome to Yorkshire, has won a silver award at the Chelsea Flower show.

    "God's Own County" is the biggest garden at this year's show and is inspired by the huge restoration project of the East Window at York Minster, with all the materials and plants used reflecting the Yorkshire landscape.

    Designer, Matthew Wilson, says he set about "deconstructing" all elements of the window's design and "putting them back together in a different order" in the garden.

  14. Billy Heath: North Ferriby United manager to take over at FC Halifax Town

    North Ferriby United have confirmed that manager Billy Heath is to take over as manager of FC Halifax Town.

    Heath and assistant Mark Carroll, who is also leaving, led North Ferriby into the National League earlier this month.

    FC Halifax Town were relegated on the last day of the season but won the FA Trophy at Wembley on Sunday.

  16. Pioneering event to empower women and girls in Leeds

    An event set up to inspire women and girls to lead safer and healthier is being held in Leeds today.

    It's called Women's Lives Leeds and will see more than 200 people attending.

    Organised by Leeds Womens' Aid it comes as the charity is celebrating news it was awarded £2m from the Big Lottery fund.

  17. Darrell Clarke: Leeds United make formal approach to speak to Bristol Rovers boss

    Leeds United have made a formal approach to speak to Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke, reports BBC Radio Bristol.

    Clarke joined Rovers as assistant boss in 2013, but was in charge when they were relegated in May 2014.

    Since then, the 38-year-old has led them to back-to-back promotions from the National League and League Two.
