Earlier, I brought you the news that Dame Barbara Windsor's life story is to be turned into a TV film by the BBC.

But of course, what I didn't reveal - and in fact what no-one can yet reveal - is who will play Dame Barbara.

That hasn't stopped some of you getting in touch with your suggestions, which have included Funny Girl and Cilla star Sheridan Smith, former Eastender Martine McCutcheon and Jaime Winstone, who was most recently seen in the Sky comedy After Hours.

But putting forward a strong case was actor and singer Vanessa Carr, who shared a picture to help convince us all...

If she replicates the trademark giggle and shout 'Gerouttamapub!' with enough gumption, I reckon she could be in with a shout.

A new documentary focuses on legendary New York fashion and celebrity photographer Rose Hartman.

She is best known for a photograph of Bianca Jagger riding on horseback in New York's famed Studio 54 nightclub.

Sir Anthony Hopkins was so terrifying and brilliant as Dr Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs that he earned himself an Oscar, but if he'd had his way, that performance would never have come to pass, as it seems he'd have preferred to have been in a band.

Sir Anthony, who played a fading stage star in the TV film The Dresser, has been reflecting on his career and believes he "wasn't cut out to be an actor".

It seems in his case, theatre and music's loss was undoubtedly cinema's gain.

After yesterday's news that Alesha Dixon had pulled out Bpop, a concert sponsored by the Brexit campaign, along with the remaining members of Five and East 17 and Sister Sledge, the final star on the line-up has also quit.

Gwen Dickey - also known as soul singer Rose Royce - has announced she's no longer doing the show planned for 19 June in Birmingham. 

Her spokesperson told the BBC "she doesn't give her name to political rallies".

Singer The Weeknd and rapper Belly cancelled their appearance on an American chat show last night because presidential hopeful Donald Trump was set to appear on the episode.

The Canadian musicians had been due to perform on Wednesday's Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which is filmed in Los Angeles, but the rapper said he pulled out because he did not want to share a stage with Trump.

In a statement, he said:

Representatives for the show, Trump and The Weeknd have not commented on the decision.

Fans anticipating the new No Man's Sky game are going to be kept waiting a few more months, reports suggest.

Originally given a June release date, the space exploration game - which will be available on PlayStation 4 and Steam - is now expected to come out in either July or August at the earliest.

No Man's Sky has been the subject of a lot of hype since it was first announced in 2013.

The makers, Hello Games, have yet to confirm news of the delay.

Gaming site Kokatu says a "reliable" source first informed them of the setback.

A GameStop employee also told them they had received marketing materials for No Man's Sky with the original 21 June release date.

Sir Elton John won't be able to meet Vladimir Putin when he visits Russia this month because of 'scheduling conflicts'. 

The singer had said he hoped to meet the Russian President to discuss his concerns over gay rights in the country, after talking to him on the phone in November. 

But a Kremlin spokesman has said that will not happen during this visit for Sir Elton's world tour, as there is "no appropriate time in the two men's schedules".

However Dmitry Peskov added, "this does not mean that such a meeting won't take place next time."

Here's something you don't see every day - Ozzy Osbourne politely unveiling a pink tram named after him in Birmingham.

The veteran rock singer returned home to the city of his birth for the launch of the tram, which had the words "Midland Metro Welcomes Ozzy" emblazoned across its destination board.

Osbourne, who declared he was happy to be home with an enthusiastic "once a Brummie, always a Brummie", said there had been trams in the city when he was a child "and I always wondered why they stopped".

Unveiling the tram in front of a large crowd, he said every time he came back to the city, "there's something different". 

"It takes me a minute or two to guess where I am. It changes all the time, it's great."

And with that, he jumped on board and headed off in the direction of the city's main railway station.

Now be honest, you never expected to read any of that when you woke up this morning, did you?

Fans of Tommy Shelby and his gang of violent Brummie miscreants, rejoice! The popular drama Peaky Blinders, which is currently showing on BBC Two on Thursday nights, is to return for more series in the future.

The BBC announced the show, which is set in 1920s Birmingham and stars Cillian Murphy as gangland boss Shelby, has been recommissioned for a fourth and fifth series.

Speaking about the series, Murphy praised writer and creator Steven Knight for his character.

The broadcaster also announced that the Christopher Eccleston-fronted series, The A Word, will return for a second run.

The series, which debuted in March, follows the story of an autistic boy and his family.

Companies like Ticketmaster should take more action to prevent touts "harvesting" concert tickets, a government review has recommended.

It says the current measures are inadequate, and suggests buyers should be forced to give proof of ID.

The report also challenges re-sale sites to observe the law, by displaying the original face value of any tickets they list for sale.

A recent survey by Which? found the rules were consistently being breached.

While it is not illegal to re-sell tickets, it is thought that some of the selling patterns are only possible because of software known as "bots", which automatically sweep up huge numbers of tickets the moment they go on sale. Touts then resell them at a profit on secondary market websites.

Tickets to see Radiohead in the UK this week are being advertised for as much as £6,000 - nearly 100 times face value - but that pales in comparison to Adele.

In February, it emerged that tickets for her UK tour were being advertised for £25,000 each.

Dame Barbara Windsor's life story is to be turned into a TV drama by the BBC.

Babs will be written by former Eastenders writer Tony Jordan. It will be broadcast next year in the run-up to Dame Barbara's 80th birthday.

The 90-minute drama will take in episodes from her childhood, her doomed marriage to Ronnie Knight and her Carry On career.

Dame Barbara, who recently bid an emotional farewell to Eastenders, said Jordan was "undoubtedly the only person I felt knew me well enough to tell my story".

The Queen has received many special presents to celebrate her 90th birthday and now she has one more - a visit from the nation's favourite "bear of very little brain", fellow nonagenarian Winnie-the-Pooh.

A new adventure, Winnie-the-Pooh and the Royal Birthday, has been released to celebrate both their special birthdays and sees Pooh, Christopher Robin, Piglet and Eeyore travel to Buckingham Palace, where they meet the Queen by chance.

Prince George also makes an appearance in the book's illustrations, though he's not mentioned by name in the text - instead being described as a little boy who is "much younger than Christopher Robin and almost as bouncy as Tigger".

Penned by Jane Riordan and illustrated by Mark Burgess, the story is available as a free download and an online audio book, narrated by actor Jim Broadbent.

Of course, this isn't Christopher Robin's first visit to Buckingham Palace, as every good nursery rhyme reader - and Petula Clark - knows...

Bruce Springsteen started his UK Tour last night and for fans in Manchester Christmas came early. Literally. 

Seven songs into his set, The Boss spotted a man in the crowd holding a sign reading “Santa Claus Is Coming to Manchester” and dressed in full Santa garb.

Bruce asked him if it was seriously a song request and told him to “get up here”. 

The E Street Band then burst into a full version of the 1985 Christmas Top 10 single, with Springsteen and Santa sharing vocals. 

It was one of over 30 songs in a set that lasted 3 hours and 10 minutes. 

Oddly for a tour billed as The River, he only played half of the tracks from the 1980 album. 

Mind you, if he had done that in full, by the time the gig finished, it really would have almost been Christmas.

A set of stamps celebrating 50 years of British rock group Pink Floyd have been unveiled by Royal Mail.

Ten stamps will be on sale from today, marking five decades since the band turned professional.

The collection include the band's most famous album covers as well as live performance shots.

Pink Floyd became known for its innovative album covers, which were made in collaboration with leading graphic designers and photographers.

Peggy Spencer, (pictured above left), the doyenne of ballroom dancing and former judge of BBC TV show Come Dancing has died in Norfolk. 

She was 95 and has been living at a care home in Heacham. 

She started teaching dancing in air raid shelters in World War Two to keep people's spirits up and continued to teach in King's Lynn until just two years ago.

She said she was asked to present Strictly Come Dancing when it launched in 2004 but refused, saying it deserved younger presenters.

Copies of William Shakespeare's first four books have sold for almost £2.5m at auction in London.

The lots, which included a rare copy of the Bard's First Folio, were sold as separate lots at Christie's auction house, but were all bought by the same anonymous American collector.

The First Folio, which contains 36 plays, fetched £1.87m, much more than the pre-sale estimate of £1.2m.

Christie's book expert Margaret Ford said the auctioneers were not surprised they had sold for so much.

It's going to be an emotional day for Coronation Street fans, as Carla Connor - played by Alison King - will make her exit from the ITV soap.

The character has endured a fair amount of heartache during her decade on the cobbles and her exit comes at the end of a highly charged week that began with her wedding ceremony (I won't say any more than that, in case you haven't caught up on the episodes yet).

A picture released by ITV shows Carla saying goodbye to her father Johnny Connor, played by Richard Hawley, but it doesn't show whether the rest of the Street are happy or sad to see her go.

I guess we'll all just have to wait until 21:00 tonight to find out.

King is leaving the soap for other projects and to spend more time with her seven-year-old daughter.
