  2. Huge lemon at sites across Manchester delights Stone Roses fans

    The Stone Roses rumour mill is going into overdrive after posters of lemons started appearing across their native Manchester.

    Yesterday we told you the band have had to cancel forthcoming dates on their international tour as drummer Reni recovers from a couple of fractured ribs.

    According to reports, bassist Mani also recently suggested a new single from the band was imminent while Noel Gallagher claimed earlier this month that singer Ian Brown has also told him about a new album.

  3. Ozzy Osbourne denies drug and alcohol relapse rumours

    Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne

    Amid reports that Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon Osbourne have split up, the veteran singer has apparently told US network E! Entertainment that claims he has relapsed into drug and alcohol abused are "completly inaccurate".

    In a statement he said:

    Quote Message: I have been sober for three and a quarter years. I have not touched drugs or alcohol in that time. Any reports that I am not sober are completely inaccurate.

    E! News reported over the weekend that the couple had broken up after more than three decades of marriage. 

  4. Zayn Malik dons UV light suit for new video

    After snogging the face off model girlfriend Gigi Hadid in his last video Pillowtalk, Zayn Malik is looking a little lonelier in the Tron-inspired promo for his new single Like I Would. 

    He's donned a light-covered UV bodysuit to dance inside an impressive laser show on the latest release from his number one album Mind of Mine.

  5. Sir Tom Jones says singing is 'therapy' following wife's death

    Sir Tom Jones has described plans to return to the stage following the death of his wife as "my best therapy".

    His wife Linda died of cancer in Los Angeles in April. Sir Tom had cancelled his Asia tour after his wife fell ill.

    Writing on his Facebook page, he said: "Music is so important to me - it's my life and through the brightest and darkest of times." 

    The singer is due to kick off his UK tour at Hampton Court Palace on 8 June.

  6. Glastonbury's Block9 line-up includes Hot Chip Prince tribute

    Glastonbury has unveiled the line-up for another of its areas - Block9 - home to underground DJs and a dystopian mix of venues including Genosys, a tower block called London Underground and the legendary gay club NYC Downlow (back with a new room).

    Highlights include a Prince tribute by Hot Chip, Seth Troxler, Shy FX and a two hour deep house set by New York legend Roger Sanchez.

    Musicians Simon Barber and Brian O’Connor, known collectively as Sodajerker, have been speaking to singers and writers about how they come up with hit songs.

    Their subjects include Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, behind iconic tracks such as You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling, plus Jimmy Webb and Adele songwriter Dan Wilson.

  8. Animal Collective donate live show recordings to LGBT charity

    Experimental popsters Animal Collective have released two live recordings of shows to raise money and awareness of the fight against the controversial North Carolina HB2 law.

    The so-called 'bathroom bill' dictates which bathrooms transgender people are permitted to use.

    In a statement on their website, the band said: “We felt that cancelling our show, like many others have done in protest of this law, would be a disappointment to our fans and decided to go on with the performance. 

    "That being said, we don’t condone or agree with any type of bigotry or discrimination.”

    The recordings, from shows in Los Angeles and Manchester, are available as pay-what-you-want downloads, with proceeds going to Progress NC, a charity which supports LGBT issues in North Carolina.

  9. Pet Shop Boys premiere Twenty-something

    Pet Shop Boys have premiered the video for their new single Twenty-something. 

    It's due out on 17 June and comes from their new album Super.

  10. Skepta leads chart battle after playing 'special' surprise show

    Skepta, who threw a last-minute show at London's Koko last night, is currently leading the race for this week's number one with his new album Konichiwa. 

    According to The Official Charts Company, it's 2,000 copies ahead of Beyonce's Lemonade with Radiohead's Sunday night release A Moon Shaped Pool coming up fast in third.

    Tottenham MC Skepta was joined on stage last night by fellow grime artists including Wiley, Novelist, Giggs and brother JME - and by all accounts he "absolutely killed it".

  12. Brighton: how to soundtrack a silent film about a noisy city

    Film director Lizzie Thynne and composer Ed Hughes have been talking about their new collaboration, a silent film about the city of Brighton.

    Brighton: Symphony of a City, which is partnered by a live music score performed by Orchestra of Sound and Light, is to premiere at the Brighton Festival.

    The pair spoke to Radio 3's In Tune about how to bring all the buzz and vibrancy of Brighton alive on a silent film.

  13. Mel Geidroyc on Eurovision: 'I've got high hopes'

    Great British Bake Off's Mel Giedroyc joins Scott Mills to present this year's Eurovision semi-finals on BBC Four tonight and Thursday, and is already in Stockholm preparing for the show. 

    She gave Chris Evans a call on Radio 2 this morning to talk through some of this year's contenders (including Brits Joe and Jake - scroll down for more from them), and reveal some of their plans for their visit.

  14. Spotify announces original music programming

    Spotify's revealed it's branching out from streaming, making 12 original video series produced by the likes of Def Jam Records co-founder Russell Simmons and actor Tim Robbins. 

    A year after adding clips from the BBC and Comedy Central to the service, it will start offering users in the US, UK, Germany and Sweden its new episodes ranging from a few minutes long to fifteen minutes later this year.  

    According to Bloomberg, that will include a documentary series called Landmark about significant music moments - including Beach Boys album Pet Sounds and Metallica - and Rush Hour, which will pair up two hip-hop acts to collaborate. 

    Actor Tim Robbins is producing a mockumentary series about a competition to become the next dance music phenomenon.

  15. US singer Elle King: 'no is always negotiable'

    US singer Elle King has popped into BBC Breakfast to talk about her latest single - and how she doesn't like being told what to do. 

    Her musical style encompasses country, soul, rock and blues, in fact, she told presenters Dan Walker and Louise Minchin that she hates being pigeonholed. 

    Oh, and she also does a pretty mean Glaswegian accent...

  16. Meghan Trainor talks about decision to withdraw music video

    Meghan Trainor has been talking about her decision to withdraw her latest music video over claims she was digitally altered to give her a smaller waist.

    Meghan was speaking to Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen and said she had been working out recently, but didn't recognise the teeny waistline in the video.

  17. The Kills play in 6 Music's Live Room

    Anglo-American duo The Kills popped into Lauren Laverne's 6 Music show to talk about their forthcoming album Ash & Ice.

    Asked about the intriguing title, Jamie Hince explained it was less poetic than it seemed. "I finished a song and I put my cigarette out in a drink."

    The guitarist also talked about the hand injury that forced him to learn new ways of playing, which has inspired the sound of the new album. 

    "I've got a paralysed middle finger so I'm permanently flipping everyone off when I'm playing," he added.

  18. UK's Joe and Jake bold about Eurovision chances

    If you've not yet heard of Joe and Jake - the UK's Eurovision hopes for 2016 - then now is the time to get acquainted.

    The duo - who met while competing separately on BBC talent show The Voice and were voted into Eurovision by British fans - are quietly confident their song could do well during Saturday's final, despite the UK's recent track record.
