Keith Slater says stores such as Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, will provide a major boost for the city economy.

But high turnover is required to justify the £440 million investment in revamping the site.

Quote Message: There have been a lot of retailers wanting to come into Oxford for a long time and not been able to find the space. In terms of turnover, Oxford ranks 49th in the country for shopping centres and this will be a major boost, because it will have to take about £300 million a year to justify having been built. from Keith Slater

  8. Humans caused extinctions of plants and animals 'thousands of years ago'

'Pristine' landscapes do not exist anywhere in the world today and, in most cases, have not existed for at least several thousand years, says a new study led by Oxford University.

Pristine environments were colonised and changed by humans well before modern-day industrialisation

It says large-scale extinctions of plants and animals started thousands of years ago, as the human race spread around the world, and not just since the Industrial Revolution.

The authors say their results show humans are more than capable of "reshaping and dramatically transforming ecosystems".

  13. Appleton says FIFA rules mean Oxford United need bigger squad

New rules concerning loans for the upcoming season in the Football League means Oxford United might have to start with a bigger squad, according to boss Michael Appleton.

New FIFA rules effectively mean the abolition of emergency loans and all business will be restricted to the transfer windows in summer and in January.

Appleton feels the changes are designed to try to improve the chances of young fringe players and will mean the squad size will also need to increase.

Quote Message: I think we'll need two or three extra players than what we had this year. Our underbelly this year a little bit short on numbers. from Michael Appleton
