  3. Evening TV: Oxford University could cut ties with student union

    On BBC South Today at 18:30, doctors in Oxford have started a new study using a statin which could help find better treatments for people with Parkinson's disease.

    Oxford University students are threatening to cut ties with the National Union of Students, after the newly-elected president has been accused of anti-semitism. 

    And parents of a four year old have received a letter warning them that their son is in danger of becoming obese - even though they say he's physically very fit.

  7. Study under way into whether statins can slow Parkinson's

    Researchers at Oxford University have begun a study looking into whether statins can slow the progression of Parkinson's. 

    The drug is traditionally used to lower cholesterol, but could help slow the degenerative disease.

  8. Man charged after fire in Gloucester Green car park

    A man from Oxford has been charged with arson after a fire in the Gloucester Green underground car park. 

    Jason Griffiths, 45, of Bath Street, appeared at Oxford Magistrates' Court today.

    On Wednesday six fire engines were needed to put out the fire in central Oxford. 

    Automatic sprinklers helped supress the fire and no-one was hurt. 

  9. Hundreds attend groundbreaking biomedical research day

    Hundreds of people visited an open day at the John Radcliffe hospital which exhibited the groundbreaking biomedical research done in Oxford. 

    Demonstrations included extracting DNA from strawberries, new ways of treating cancer and the future of meningitis vaccines.

  10. Oxford University backs Britain in Europe

    Oxford University has backed the government's campaign for Britain to stay in Europe, ahead of the EU Referendum in June. 

    The institution highlighted that it had received £66m in EU research funding between 2014 and 2015.

  13. Ten phones stolen in three hours at Oxford nightclub

    Ten phones were stolen in the space of three hours at an Oxford nightclub on Thursday. 

    Police have said the phones were taken from patrons of the Wahoo bar in Hythe Bridge Street. 

    Other stolen goods included a passport and a driving licence.

  15. 'Communication over Headington pipeline has improved'

    Communication between residents and an NHS trust over a controversial heating pipeline between two Headington hospitals has improved, according to a local councillor. 

    Glynis Phillips said Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - which runs the Churchill and John Radcliffe Hospitals - has shown they're willing to collaborate with the community.

    The route of the £14.8m pipeline linking the two hospitals in Oxford is being revised after a retrospective planning application was rejected.
