Northampton Borough Council is set to buy 9 Guildhall Road which is the home of the NN Contemporary Art gallery.

Next week, the council's cabinet will decide whether to pay Northamptonshire County Council £462,000 for the building.

Conservative councillor Tim Hadland said they want the building "used in a way that will complement the Cultural Quarter".

He said the art gallery would continue to occupy the building.

The Church of England's Bishop of Peterborough, whose diocese covers Northamptonshire, has reiterated his belief the EU Referendum is unnecessary.

The Rt Rev Donald Allister said: "We have representative democracy where people are chosen and set apart to make decisions and lead."

In a statement issued today, the Bishop said he would not tell people how to vote, but added there is a danger of a "disunited country".

Plans to demolish a house and former garage building in Rushden and replace them with nine new homes has angered residents in the town.

Outline planning permission is being sought for the land on Northampton Road. Nine two-bedroom homes would be built.

Rushden and Higham Ferrers town councils have objected claiming it's "over-development" and "quantity not quality".

Councillors are due to decide whether to grant outline planning permission at a meeting this evening. East Northamptonshire Council's planning officers are recommending the plans are approved.

Milton Keynes Dons are moving forward to get a new training facility built in Cosgrove over the Northamptonshire border, but not everyone is in favour of the move.

A Facebook group and petition have been started by people who want the land to stay as it is.  

The 'Save the fields at Cosgrove' group believe the scale of the development does "not belong in the heart of the countryside" and will "completely destroy an area of natural beauty and heritage enjoyed by many".

New plans have been lodged by Milton Keynes Dons for a training facility in Cosgrove, with the club set to request planning permission later this year.

Tom Stewart, from MK Dons Supporters' Association, said the site is needed to develop "new talent" that the club currently needs - but added it is a "disappointment" that it won't be built in the new city.

Plans to turn Rushden's former Grenson shoe factory into flats are due to be discussed this evening. The turreted, Grade II listed building has been described as one of the best preserved boot and shoe factories in the town.

The four-storey factory on Queen Street dates from around 1890 and was in use until 2013. Plans to turn it into 16 flats were approved in 2014, despite opposition from English Heritage and the Victorian Society.

At a meeting this evening, the developer is applying to change the planning permission so 14 flats can be created.

There is queuing traffic and one lane is blocked on the A1 southbound at the Wittering turn-off.

It's because of an accident involving four vehicles and a fuel spillage.

There is severe congestion stretching as far as Wothorpe.

Corby's Core at Corby Cube theatre is to produce its own Christmas show this year, for the first time in six years.

Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is written and directed by Gary Sefton, who previously directed the theatre's first show, Hansel and Gretel.

In recent years, touring shows have been bought in for the Christmas period, rather than produced in-house. It will run from 8 - 31 December.

Yesterday's extraordinary meeting about The Castle Theatre is the latest act in a long-running drama.

We've already heard from a drama group which says it's owned £14,500, and from the leader of the council, who says communication with the theatre management had broken down.

All parties are said to be looking for a solution to The Castle's problems, but no one knows how this drama will end.

A man suffered serious injuries yesterday when he lost control of his car and it came off the road into a verge.

The incident happened on the A43 northbound, near to the entry slip road at the A413, Dadford Road Junction.

The man, who had been driving a white Nissan Skyline, was taken by ambulance to John Radcliffe Hospital.

A 22-year-old man suffered a fractured jaw after he was assaulted outside Flames kebab shop in Corby.

The incident happened at 02:35 on Sunday, but Northamptonshire Police have only just given details. The man was punched in the face, knocking him unconscious.

His attacker is described as a white man, in his late 20s, with light coloured hair that was slightly receding at the front. He was wearing a grey hooded top and blue jeans that were cropped at the knees.

The A6098 Windmill Avenue in Kettering town centre is closed because of an accident between two vehicles.

Traffic is queuing in both directions at the Deeble Road junction. Delays are said to be severe.

The meteorologists say it's the first day of summer... but it doesn't feel like it.
