It's time to say goodbye, until tomorrow at least, when we'll be back to keep you bang up to date with all the week's new music releases and highlights of BBC Music Day events all around the UK - from Will Young, Izzy Bizu and Duran Duran to Shaun the Sheep's vegetable orchestra (a real, amazing-sounding, thing).

Scroll down for today's big stories, with new music from The Avalanches, M.I.A. and Chase & Status plus a twist on The Breakfast Club from Shura, a Sonic Youth / Bernie Sanders collaboration and why rapper Fetty Wap's got his old school in trouble.

  2. US court upholds decision on Madonna copyright claim

    Madonna

One of the highest appeal courts in the US has upheld a copyright ruling on Madonna's 1990 hit Vogue.

The legal action had been filed by VMG Salsoul, the copyright owner of a 1976 composition called Love Break, who claimed new technology had found the "deliberately hidden" sampling by Madonna and producer Robert "Shep" Pettibone.

The alleged infringement involved a 0.23 second horn segment.

In 2013, a District Court judge in California ruled the sampling was "trivial," and could not be recognised.

Now, the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld the ruling, stating that a general audience would not recognise the brief snippet in Vogue as originating from Love Break.

  3. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds to launch new album with movie

    Nick Cave

Skeleton Tree, the sixth studio album and the first in three years from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds is to be released the day after a film about its recording.

Directed by Andrew Dominik, One More Time With Feeling will be screened in more than 650 cinemas across the world for one night only on 8 September - with the album out on the following day.

Dominik - who directed films like Chopper and Killing Them Softly - delves into the tragic backdrop of the writing and recording of the album.

Last year, Cave's 15-year-old son Arthur died after falling from a cliff in Brighton.

  4. Burt Bacharach recruits Rumer and Marc Almond for London show

    Rumer

Burt Bacharach's announced he'll be joined by Rumer and Marc Almond at his upcoming London Palladium show on 25 June.

They will each sing a couple of songs alongside Burt on the piano, accompanied by a full orchestra.

Rumer is known for her love of the star's impressive back catalogue, having previously recorded an EP called Rumer sings Burt Bacharach and performed at The White House when he received The Gershwin Prize in 2012.

American singer/songwriter Norma Jean Martine is also on the bill, with more acts set to be announced.

  5. Tributes paid to Manchester music promoter Alan Wise

Tributes are being paid to Manchester music promoter Alan Wise, who was a key figure in the city's musical history, from the Hacienda and Factory Records to Joy Division, New Order and The Fall.

He also managed Nico and according to music blog Louder Than War was "one of the key architects of the Manchester scene.”

The tribute read: "For many years the looming figure of Alan Wise was part and parcel of every cool gig in the city with his off the wall presence and spirit of bohemia."

Former New Order and Joy Division bassist Peter Hook and DJ and author Dave Haslam are among those who've paid their respects on Twitter:

  6. Shura debuts new video for What's It Gonna Be?

Electro-popster Shura has unveiled a new video for her track What's It Gonna Be?

It's got a vaguely Breakfast Club feel to it and, in fact, sees the singer at Shermer High School - which all self-respecting John Hughes fans will know as Shermer, Illinois - where 1985 movie The Breakfast Club was set.

There's a twist though - and it's "based on a true story" according to Shura herself.

    Check it out below...

  7. Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore collaborates with Bernie Sanders

    The Guardian

    Thurston Moore

Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and Democratic presidential contender Bernie Sanders have collaborated on a new track called Feel It in Your Guts.

The track is "a 12-string acoustic composition mixed in with snippets of Sanders’ speeches" and will be released as a limited run of 1,000 white vinyl records as well as digitally.

The label suggests fans donate $27 (£19).

Meanwhile, rocker Jon Bon Jovi has appeared at a rally supporting Bernie's rival for the nomination Hilary Clinton.

"I just like to refer to her as Mrs C," Bon Jovi said at the rally in Newark, New Jersey. "I hope that soon we will be calling her Madame President."

  8. Principal suspended for letting Fetty Wap film video in old school

    Fetty Wap

The principal of the New Jersey high school where rapper Fetty Wap recorded his latest music video has been suspended.

The school district is now investigating how he was allowed to record the video for Wake Up, which features numerous drug references and a pole dancer, at Eastside High School, which he used to attend.

Principal Zatiti Moody is now on paid "administrative leave", according to NorthJersey.com.

Paterson school district spokeswoman Terry Corallo said they don't endorse the content of the video, which was "shot during non-instructional hours and didn't include students".

Fetty Wap - who dropped out of high school - has defended his actions in a statement.

"I went back to my old high school because I love my city,'' he said.

"I wanted to show the students of Paterson that someone who walked those same hallways they walk every day and sat in the same classrooms shown in the video has become successful. If I can do it they can do it too."

  9. Paul Simon on happiness, death and Donald Trump

    Paul Simon

Paul Simon says he wants people to come away from his music feeling happy, rather than burdening them with his woes.

He's been discussing his latest album, Stranger To Stranger, which touches on mortality, faith, love and social inequality.

"Oddly enough, the older you get, the happier you get," the 74-year-old told BBC Music reporter Mark Savage.

"When you've passed through crises a few times - when people die, when you experience enough sadness and enough joy - you tend to turn your attention towards the joy.

"The sadness is a constant anyway, so why deliver it as a gift to someone else? 'Here, take my sadness and listen to it for an hour.' I wouldn't do that."

You can read his take on everything from Donald Trump to Instagram.

  10. Muzak - what does it do to your brain?

Is the subliminal message 'Buy!, Buy!' or 'Bye, bye'?

  11. Michael Eavis wants to hold a new festival at Longleat

    Michael Eavis

Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis has said he hopes to hold a new music festival in Longleat in 2019.

It is a "fallow year" for Glastonbury, which takes a break every six years, so as not to cause long-lasting damage to Worthy Farm.

On Wednesday, Eavis told ITV News: "We're talking to Longleat every day, so I hope we can come to an agreement with them eventually."

Last month, Emily Eavis suggested any event held in Longleat would not be billed as the Glastonbury Festival.

"It's going to be the whole team behind the Glastonbury Festival but it's not going to be called Glastonbury," she said.

  19. Grace Slick applauds Pink's White Rabbit

    Grace Slick

Jefferson Airplane's Grace Slick has give the the thumbs up to Pink's cover version of her hallucinogenic White Rabbit for the new film Alice Through the Looking Glass.

"It’s good. Pink has the vocal power, which is all I care about," the 76-year-old told the Wall Street Journal.

"Over the years, I’ve heard a lot of versions of the song where singers don’t have the attitude or vocal force you need on it. Pink knows how to sing.”

White Rabbit appeared on the Airplane's album Surrealistic Pillow in February 1967.

"Pink sings with power, but it’s something more," said Slick.

"You sense that if she wanted to, she could open the throttle even more at any time. That coiled energy creates drama and catches the ear.”

    Here's Pink's version...
