  9. Ramadan Mubarak to all those fasting

    Shahid Hussain

    BBC Yorkshire

For many, including me, it's the beginning of Ramadan today.

That's no food or drink between sunrise and sunset for 30 days. So that's nil by mouth for around 18 hours at the moment.

The idea is, as a Muslim, it helps you reflect on your religion, be an all round charitable good egg and think of those less fortunate than you.

I've been fasting for quite a few years now so the endurance becomes easier!

So for all those fasting - Ramadan Mubarak and here's my favourite Ramadan tweet today!

  17. Yorkshire commemorations for D-Day anniversary

    BBC Look North, Yorkshire

The Yorkshire Regiment will lay a wreath in France later to mark the 72nd anniversary of D-Day.

The commemorations mark an invasion that was the biggest the world had seen.

In June 19944, the Germans were expecting an attack. Transporting thousands of troops across the English Channel and landing them on beaches in full view of enemy fire risked high casualties.

To succeed required intricate planning, ingenious invention and the mounting of the largest sea and airborne invasion the world had ever seen.
