Nottinghamshire have re-signed former Australia all-rounder Dan Christian for this summer's T20 Blast.

The 32-year-old was with Notts for the second half of last season, playing in the Blast and the Royal London One-Day Cup, hitting three half-centuries.

Newcastle defender Shane Ferguson has extended his loan spell at Millwall.

The 24-year-old Northern Ireland international joined the League One side in August, and has now extended his deal until 23 January.

Ferguson has made 25 appearances in all competitions for Millwall to date, scoring twice.

Eddie Jones looks set to select a sprinkling of uncapped talent - and leave out some established names - when his first England squad is announced on Wednesday.

It is understood that the 33-man group will include exciting newcomers like Wasps centre Elliot Daly, Saracens forward Maro Itoje and Harlequins flanker Jack Clifford.

Newcastle United sign England midfielder Jonjo Shelvey from Premier League relegation rivals Swansea City for £12m.

The 23-year-old passed a medical at St James' Park before the deal was completed on Tuesday.

Shelvey, who had signed a four-year contract extension in 2015, is the first player to leave since Alan Curtis took charge.

He becomes Newcastle's second January signing after Senegal midfielder Henri Saivet's arrival on Monday.

England and British and Irish Lions prop Alex Corbisiero has left Premiership side Northampton Saints with immediate effect.

The 27-year-old, capped 20 times by England, announced in December that he is taking a year out from the game.

He won Premiership and European Challenge Cup trophies in 2014 but knee, shoulder and lower-back injuries have limited club and country progress.

"I've had some amazing highs and some frustrating lows," said Corbisiero.

"I have always been well looked after and supported. It's been an honour to be part of such a special group of players and I wish them all the best."

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero got the most votes, with Alexis Sanchez of Arsenal and Jamie Vardy of Leicester also in the side.

Barcelona striker Neymar has - in the mildest possible way - admitted he is disappointed to finish third behind Real Madrid's Ronaldo and Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi.

"I'd hoped to come second," he told Marca.

"I'm delighted to be here alongside two footballing greats. I hope to come back and for my team to keep winning.

"I don't want to be better than anyone else; I just want to better myself. Now I have to work a little bit more to be among the three finalists again."

Wolves have signed teenage winger Will Randall from home town club Swindon Town for an undisclosed fee. 

The 18-year-old has made three starts in 11 first-team appearances for Swindon since making his debut on the final day of the 2013-14 season.

Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini, winger Florian Thauvin and defender Kevin Mbabu are all doubtful to face Manchester United because of injury.

However, Magpies midfielder Jack Colback is expected to return to the side after recovering from a hamstring problem.

Reds midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is out after suffering a knee problem against Sheffield United. 

Morgan Schneiderlin, Michael Carrick and Ashley Young were not involved at the weekend and could all return.

Ronnie O'Sullivan made a winning return in his first major tournament for nine months with a 6-5 victory over Mark Williams in the Masters first round.

The five-time world and Masters champion took a break from the sport after last year's World Championship.

Trailing 4-2, he won three straight frames before securing his place in the quarter-finals after Williams missed a plant in the decider.

Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola has apologised for putting managers under pressure by announcing his intention to move to the Premier League next season.

The Spaniard, who will leave Bayern when his contract expires in the summer, has said he has received several offers from English clubs.

Speaking at Bayern's winter training camp in Doha, he said he was "sorry" if his comments were disrespectful.

"It was not my intention to offend anybody," said the 44-year-old. "Normally in my career as a trainer and as a player, I respect my colleagues a lot."

That tie takes place next Wednesday, a 19:45 GMT kick-off.
