  3. Prosecutor praise for stabbing witnesses

    The prosecutor in the case of Abingdon Poundland killer Trevor Joyce has issues a statement after he was sentenced to life for manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

  4. Abingdon Poundland killer: Shoppers stunned as Joyce ran amok

    The court heard how shoppers appeared stunned and shocked as Trevor Joyce ran amok around the town centre after killing Justin Skrebowski with a carving knife.

    Before being brought down by police with stun guns, he yelled: "I have killed someone now. I hope you are satisfied. Shake my hand. Congratulate me."

  5. BreakingPoundland victims family: 'Incomprehensible' killer was 'at large'

    The family of Justin Skrebowksi have criticised the "catalogue of blunders" made by mental health services in their dealings with killer Trevor Joyce.

    Speaking after Joyce was jailed for life, they said: "Given what was known by the authorities of the state of Joyce's mind at the time, it is incomprehensible to us that he was left at large in the community. 

    "Justin died on his wife's birthday as a direct result of the minimally supervised release of a very sick man.

    "The catalogue of blunders, missed opportunities and failed procedures defies belief."

  6. Abingdon Poundland killer: Judge slams schizophrenic's illegal drug use

    Sentencing Joyce to life in jail with a minimum term of nine years, Judge Zoe Smith said: the shock of Justin Skrebowski's killing hads traumatised his family and that the sheer random horror of his killing was proving very hard and painful for his family to cope with. 

    Quote Message: Whilst it is said your psychotic state was becoming more difficult for you, it is clear at the time the amount of drugs you were consuming was also on the increase. And you knew that such drug-taking is going to exacerbate the symptoms you have.
  7. Abingdon Poundland killing: Victim was 'extraordinarily generous man'

    Father-of-two Justin Skrebowski, who ran a stall on London's Portobello Road, was buying balloons for his children when he was knifed in the back at 11:20 on 7 December.

    He was described by his family as an "extraordinarily generous man" with a "ready sense of humour" and a "love of life and learning".

    The widow of Justin Skrebowski broke down in tears as she described the emotional and financial burden of bringing up their four-year-old twins without their father.

    The court heard Gulsen Alkan had struggled to keep her husband's business going and had received a "meagre" £10,000 in compensation for his death.

  9. Abingdon Poundland killer: Drug abuse made schizophrenia worse

    The court heard Joyce had a long history of drug abuse which made his schizophrenia symptoms worse. 

    He was first diagnosed in 2003 and was prescribed anti-psychotic drugs and was also treated in hospital.

    In October 2015, Joyce told a doctor that he was hearing voices and said he would have stabbed his neighbour when he went round to confront him about noise. This was reported to authorities, but a decision was taken not to section Joyce

    The court heard that Joyce's past convictions included drink and drug-driving, possession of crack cocaine, battery, and possession of a weapon in a public place which led to the confiscation of a sword.

    After Joyce fatally stabbed 61-year-old Justin Skrebowski, he brandished the carving knife, shouting at shoppers and staff: "This is what you get. I have done it. If I had my way you would be stabbed too." 

    He then ran out of the shop and threatened elderly residents sitting on benches. 

    He also threatened to stab a young child and mother in the street as he waved the knife in people's faces, the court heard.

  11. Abingdon Poundland killer Trevor Joyce to serve minimum nine years

    Trevor Joyce is to serve a minimum nine years.

    The Old Bailey heard he had taken a large knife and carving fork from a display before launching his random attack in the celebrations aisle of Poundland and knifing father-of-two Justin Skrebowski in the back.

    The 36-year-old, of Franklyn Close, Abingdon, was a schizophrenic drug addict.

    Joyce was charged with murder, but admitted the lesser charge on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

    He also pleaded guilty to two counts of making threats to kill, one count of causing actual bodily harm and one count of making threats with offensive weapons.  

  12. BreakingAbingdon Poundland killer jailed for life

    A 36-year-old man has been jailed for life for stabbing a man to death in Abingdon's Poundland store. 

    Justin Skrebowski was killed in December. Trevor Joyce, of Franklyn Close in Abingdon, had pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

    Oxfordshire's minor counties campaign has started with a defeat. 

    They've been beaten by an innings and 59 runs by Cornwall inside two days at St Austell. 

    It means they're yet to win in any format of the game so far this season.

  15. Witney car park travellers served legal notice to move on

    Travellers who've set up camp in a Witney car park have been served with a legal notice by the county council demanding they move on.

    Up to 20 caravans moved into the Woodford Way car park at the end of last week - barely a month after they had already moved on from the site.

    An Oxfordshire County Council spokesman said the authority had visited the site today and served the legal notice "informing them they are trespassing".

    "Should they remain, a court order will be sought requiring them to leave,” the spokesman added.

  16. Two women arrested after armed robberies

    Two women from Didcot have been arrested after two armed robberies in south Oxfordshire over the weekend.

    Co-op stores in Didcot and Wootton were targeted on Friday and Saturday night.

    During the attack in Wootton, a man carrying a hammer entered the store on Besselsleigh Road at about 19:35, went behind the counter and took tobacco before demanding cash from till.

    Two women, aged 37 and 28, both from Didcot were arrested yesterday on suspicion of robbery and were bailed until 18 July.

    A 36-year-old man from Didcot was arrested yesterday on suspicion of robbery and is currently in custody. A second man, aged 27, who was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery has been released without charge.
