Cathal Smyth

Jools welcomes Cathal Smyth of Madness to the studio as he launches his solo career. Cathal sings live and picks his favourite records.

Launching his solo career, Cathal Smyth of Madness joins Jools tonight, singing live and picking his favourite records.

Originally known as Chas Smash, Cathal first popped up on the charts as the voice that intoned "Hey you, don't watch that, watch this..." on Madness' first big hit "One Step Beyond".

Since then he's been an integral part of the much loved band, but has finally decided to make a record in his own. He tells Jools about its genesis, and sings a classic Lou Reed song with the band.
