Rare lunar eclipse sequence begins

The moon has turned red in the skies above the Americas and the Caribbean at the start of a rare series of lunar eclipses. This is the first stage of what's known as a tetrad -- a sequence of four complete eclipses within two years. Dr EC Krupp is director of the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, which stayed up all night for the event.
