    Mick McCarthy

"Do you want to be treated well? Do you want to be treated trustfully, honestly, respectfully? Do you want to be given responsibility? As a manager I start with that process. I work hard and I expect everyone who works for me to work hard."

Bury St Edmunds Cupola being lifted into place

Purcell says the project completion date can't be confirmed at this stage, but it's thought the scaffolding will be removed from both The Traverse and Skinner Street at the end of October.

Hawkins's defence said he had been going through an "acrimonious divorce". He pleaded guilty to four offences of fraud committed between 2007 and 2013.

  10. Danny Hegan: 'Jack the Lad'

    Richard Haugh

    BBC News

There's an interesting interview with former Ipswich midfielder Danny Hegan, who has died aged 72, on the Ipswich Star website.

Published in 2010, Elvin King's article reveals that Hegan was a "rebel" who was known as a "Jack the lad".

"I needed a kick up the backside every now and again," Hegan said. "If we were told to report at 9.45am, I would go in at 9.50am. It's just the way I was."

  19. Speedway bonus points explained

    Stephen Foster

    BBC Radio Suffolk

Ever wondered what bonus points are in speedway? They are a way of rewarding riders for team riding and are paid by the club, but don't count towards the side's total score on the night.

    Ipswich speedway

For example, if Witches skipper Danny King wins a race he and the team get three points. If his riding partner in that heat follows him in second place, he scores two points for the side but also gets a paid point.

It discourages riders on the same team competing against each other. Don't forget, speedway riders make their money on the number of points they score.

  20. Mick McCarthy: 'Josh Emmanuel is ready for full debut'

    Graeme Mac

    BBC Radio Suffolk sport

How will Ipswich Town defender Josh Emmanuel sleep tonight?

It has been an excellent summer for the academy star, who signed his first full professional contract with the Blues yesterday, and tomorrow he is likely to make his competitive debut at Brentford.

Manager Mick McCarthy had no hesitation in offering the 17-year-old a two-year contract, having watched the right-back excel in pre-season, and he believes Emmanuel is ready to grace the Championship.

"He has pace and power and nobody is going to bully him physically, and he is also technically ready," McCarthy said. "I think he has done really well."

  21. Felixstowe Pier plans scaled down

    Ipswich Star

Work on a multi-million pound development of Felixstowe Pier is set to start next year, but plans have had to be scaled down due to huge costs involved.

  22. Pink fan Mick McCarthy not allowed near Town stereo

    BBC Sport

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has admitted to a somewhat varied taste in music, and says he doesn't get to choose the changing room playlist.

    Mick McCarthy

"I sometimes threaten the lads with my iPod, or my music on my phone. But they won't let me do it," he told Brenner Woolley as part of a special interview being broadcast at 16:00. His favourite musicians include Nickelback, Barbra Streisand, Kings of Leon and Elvis.

McCarthy also said he'd been to see Pink in concert: "My wife Fiona booked it for me [at] the O2 and my kids went behind my back, 'Pink, is he off his head with midlife crisis?' I think she's fantastic, she's brilliant."

  23. Police seek Felixstowe beach fight footage

Police are appealing to anyone who filmed a large fight on Felixstowe beach.

    Felixstowe beach

A "number of males" were involved in the incident near Sea Road at about 20:40 on 25 July, Suffolk Police said. The force believes a "large number of people" were in the area and may have footage.

A boy, 17, and man, 25, from Felixstowe and a 19-year-old man from Chelmondiston were arrested on suspicion of affray.

  24. Suffolk swimmer celebrates superb World Championships

    Graeme Mac

    BBC Radio Suffolk sport

We have always known that Chris Walker-Hebborn had talent, but after his performance in Russia over the last week, the world is starting to take notice of the swimmer who has roots in Bury St Edmunds.

    Chris Walker-Hebborn

The 25-year-old was part of the world record breaking 4x100m mixed medley team that won gold for Great Britain in Kazan, and he narrowly missed out on a podium place in the 100m backstroke event competing against some of the biggest names in the sport.

The biggest stage of all for any swimmer is the Olympic Games, and if Walker-Hebborn stays fit, it would be a safe bet that he makes the team for Rio next year.

  25. Here are the lunchtime headlines

    Philippa Taylor

    Suffolk Live

    If you're just joining us:

    • Police have less than 18 hours to question three suspects arrested in connection with Tuesday's shooting incident in Bury St Edmunds
    • Seven replica guns have been stolen during a burglary in Haverhill
    • Mick McCarthy says his side is well placed to improve on last season's sixth-placed finish
  26. Who will start for Ipswich Town at Brentford?

    Graeme Mac

    BBC Radio Suffolk sport

Christophe Berra's suspension and an injury to Jonathan Parr means there are likely to be two debuts in defence for Ipswich Town tomorrow at Griffin Park - with Josh Emmanuel and Jonas Knudsen possibly in the full-back positions, and Luke Chambers in his preferred role at centre-back alongside Tommy Smith.

Daryl Murphy, Brett Pitman, Freddie Sears and David McGoldrick

The Blues midfield should have new look to it with the youth and pace of Ainlsey Maitland-Niles and Ryan Fraser on the wings, and the experience and strength of Jonathan Douglas and Cole Skuse in the centre.

Up front it is a case of who starts alongside last season's leading goalscorer Daryl Murphy. I'm predicting that Brett Pitman will get the nod, having scored four goals in pre-season, but it's a tough call given that both Freddie Sears and David McGoldrick are fit and ready to play.

  27. ‘Too little, too late’ - residents’ verdict after Pakefield floods inquiry

    Lowestoft Journal

Distraught residents whose homes were flooded despite years of protesting about the problems have said a council inquiry into what happened is "too little, too late".

    Tally Ho Trotter

Tally Ho Trotter graced the area yesterday to promote a new art project coming to the town from June to September next year.

Pigs Gone Wild aims to raise money for St Elizabeth's Hospice, where Norman Lloyd is Special Projects Manager. "It's a massive arts trail," he said. "We're going to have around 40 life-sized pigs which will all be individually decorated."

  29. Gallery: Seabirds 'ganging up to catch park's fish stocks'

    Ipswich Star

Gulls and cormorants appear to be working together as teams to catch goldfish from the round pond in Christchurch Park, according to rangers.

  30. Webster aims to reignite season at Snetterton

    Graeme Mac

    BBC Radio Suffolk sport

Josh Webster's double race victory at Snetterton a year ago proved a major factor in the 21-year-old going on to win the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Series at the first attempt, but he has work to do to retain the title.

Josh Webster celebrates victory at Snetterton

Yorkshire's Dan Cammish currently leads the way with six victories from the eight rounds so far this season and is the heavy favourite to be crowned champion at Brands Hatch in October.

However, I would not bet against Stowmarket's Webster making up ground on his home circuit this weekend. Fingers crossed for him in qualifying tomorrow.

  31. Replica guns stolen during Haverhill burglary

    Philippa Taylor

    Suffolk Live

Seven replica guns were stolen during a burglary in Haverhill.

The incident happened in Snowdon Court between 15:00 on Monday and 15:30 yesterday.

The guns include a Beretta .177 air pistol, two replica CO2 Walther PPKs, a 6mm western-style revolver, a .38 Walther PPK, a .38 Barrel revolver and a .38 snub nose revolver.

  32. Last man in could be key to Ipswich Town success

    Brenner Woolley

    BBC Radio Suffolk sport

I have been very impressed once again with Ipswich Town's dealings in the transfer market this summer, and believe Mick McCarthy has put together a team that could be the best I've commentated on in a while.

    Jonas Knudsen

Full-back Jonas Knudsen (pictured) could turn out to be a great bit of business and the addition of Brett Pitman means Town's strikeforce is comfortably as good as any other in the Championship.

It is the latest addition, Jonathan Douglas, that could be key for me though. He has a lot of experience at this level and can get you goals from midfield as well.

  33. Extra time to question Bury St Edmunds shooting suspects set to expire

    Philippa Taylor

    Suffolk Live

Suffolk Police have less than 24 hours to question three people arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, after a shooting in Bury St Edmunds on Tuesday evening.

    Station Hill with police cordon

Yesterday afternoon they applied to West Suffolk Magistrates' Court for a "warrant of further detention", and were granted an additional 36 hours to question the 58-year-old man and two women, aged 59 and 28 from the Needham Market area, who were arrested on Wednesday morning.

The victim, in his thirties, is currently receiving treatment in hospital and remains in a stable condition.

  34. Framlingham's Mount Pleasant homes plans

    East Anglian Daily Times

The plans have been submitted by Persimmon Homes at the same time as its 100-home development is being considered on appeal.

  35. Mick McCarthy: Ipswich Town aiming for a top two finish

    Graeme Mac

    BBC Radio Suffolk sport

On the eve of Ipswich Town's Championship opener at Brentford, Blues boss Mick McCarthy says his side are well placed to improve on last season's sixth placed finish.

    Mick McCarthy

McCarthy has brought in eight new additions, a few of which are likely to make their competitive debuts for Ipswich at Griffin Park tomorrow.

"I had a look at last season's team photo the other day and saw how short we were for numbers and competition in certain areas," McCarthy said. "We're much stronger now. We'll aim for top two but lots of teams will be doing the same thing having spent a lot more than us."
