Geoffrey Howe proud of Welsh roots, David Hunt says

Former Conservative Chancellor and Foreign Secretary Lord Howe, who has died aged 88, was a "fiery Welshman" proud of his roots, according to a former Cabinet colleague.

Lord Hunt of Wirral, who was Welsh Secretary from 1990-93, paid tribute to Geoffrey Howe as a "one-nation Conservative" who wanted to balance economic prosperity with social justice.

He told Louise Elliott on BBC Radio Wales that his upbringing in Port Talbot shaped his beliefs.
