Let me introduce myself

Ben links up online with children in France and practises greetings in French. His new friends introduce themselves and take him on a virtual mini tour of their neighbourhood.

Ben is learning French at school. He links up online with children in Marseille to practise and improve his French. His new friends introduce themselves to Ben. They are Lili, Thibaud, Ingrid and Ulysse and most of the time only speak to Ben in French. Ben introduces himself in French and learns that there is a range of greetings used in France. His new friends use Salut, Bonjour, Ça va bien ? Ben notices that his French friends kiss each other on the cheek when they meet up, which is quite different from greeting friends in the UK.

Ben uses his French to ask his friends where they live. They are all from the city of Marseille. Ben is then taken on a virtual mini-tour of their neighbourhood in the city of Marseille. They point out a theatre and a playground and spend a few moments listening to some buskers in the street. Ben then finds out what you can buy in a ‘glacier’. He practises asking for an ice cream. He learns the importance of greeting the shop assistant in a more formal way – Bonjour Madame. Ben says Au Revoir to his friends and learns two new phrases to say goodbye - Bonne soirée ! À bientôt.
