Testing of special needs pupils 'disgusting' says head

The measurement and testing of special educational needs pupils is "disgusting", a head teacher has said.

Nigel Utton, head of Bromstone Primary School in Kent said he had decided "enough is enough" and he would be leaving his job.

In September, the system for helping children with special needs in England will change. The government says it's the biggest change in 30 years and will give more power to parents.

Statements which used to cover educational needs will be replaced with plans including health and care provision.

Mr Utton said "all of the changes are making it worse" and criticised how he is measured not on "how brilliant" a child's life is but on how they perform in a test aged 11.

He continued "It's wearing me down, it's worn me out and it's got to the point where I've got to stop for a while".
