Hillsborough inquests: Officer accused of lying
A police officer on duty on the day of the Hillsborough football disaster has been accused of lying, the inquests into the deaths of 96 Liverpool football fans have heard.
PC Trevor Bichard was operating the police CCTV cameras on the day of the disaster in April 1989.
He heard officers on the police radio asking for gates to be closed across the access tunnel to prevent more fans getting through to the pens behind the goal, and made a note of it in a written log the following day.
On Tuesday the court was told that in a second version of the log, and in his subsequent oral evidence to the Taylor public inquiry, no mention was made of it.
A lawyer representing the Hillsborough families said the officer had wiped a written record from the history of Hillsborough.
Mr Bichard told the inquests: "I've never lied. I've always had honestly held beliefs".
