  4. New road layout cuts traffic queues at hospital

    Managers at Coventry's University Hospital say changes to the road layout at the site have reduced traffic congestion. 

    The first phase of an improvement scheme, involving changes to car park entrances and a new bus interchange has been completed, along with work on nearby Clifford Bridge Road.

    A young Nuneaton man was fatally stabbed in a “wholly unexpected and wholly unjustified” attack as he and his friends were on their way to a Halloween party.  

  8. Work underway for new fire station

    Work has started on a new fire station for Warwickshire at the Aston Martin site in Gaydon.

    Costing more than £750,000 it will be home to one engine and 12 firefighters when completed in July.

  9. Time extension granted in electoral fraud investigation

    Warwickshire Police say they've been given more time to investigate allegations of electoral fraud from the 2015 general election. 

    They're looking into improper campaign spending returns. 

    It's one of eight similar investigations across the country and they've been granted a further 12 months to carry out their investigation.

  10. County's 'breadth of offerings' wins place in travel guide

    Shakespeare's 400th anniversary celebrations in Stratford-upon-Avon has boosted visitor numbers to Warwickshire according to travel guide Lonely Planet.

    Editorial director Tom Hall said the county has so much more to offer.

    "Whether travellers are seeking sublime scenery, historical market towns or perfect ruins, Warwickshire has them all," he said.

  11. Driver describes 'dramatic' coach fire on M6

    A coach driver says a bus carrying 59 schoolchildren and seven teachers took only ten minutes to be completely destroyed by fire.

    Driver Paul Bingham, from Evesway Travel of Wigan, spotted flames coming from the vehicle on the M6 yesterday, and pulled over to help those on board.

    "it was quite dramatic" he said, "within ten minutes the bus was destroyed".

    He then transported the children to the National Motorcycle Museum, opposite the NEC, where parents were waiting. 

    The ambulsance service commended Mr Bingham saying: "The Trust would like to pay tribute to the Eavesway Travel of Wigan coach driver who spotted the issue, stopped at the side of the motorway and helped evacuate the children".

  12. Warwickshire only UK entry in Lonely Planet's 'top 10'

    Warwickshire is the only UK destination to be named in Lonely Planet's top ten destinations in Europe to visit this summer.

    The list also includes Peloponnese in Greece, Venice and The Dordogne and is compiled by Lonely Planet’s travel experts.

  14. Controversial housing development goes before planners

    Plans for 2,000 new homes at Lighthorne Heath and Gaydon in Warwickshire go before planners at Stratford District Council tonight. 

    The scheme's being recommended for approval despite strong local opposition and businesses including Jaguar Land Rover.

    A letter to the council from consultants representing JLR complains of lack of 'appropriate consultation' and voices concerns overs highways issues.
