Norwich lost ground on the Championship leaders as Souleymane Doukara's goal gave Leeds a share of the points.
The Canaries had the better of the first half at Carrow Road and were rewarded early in the second when Russell Martin headed in from a corner.
But just four minutes later, Doukara levelled from 20 yards.
Norwich striker Cameron Jerome claimed he was racially abused by Leeds' defender Giuseppe Bellusci after the pair clashed in the first half.
The result leaves Leeds 15th in the table, while Norwich are now fifth and four points behind new league-leaders Derby.
The result means that Darko Milanic remains without a win as Leeds manager, but he will have been encouraged by a more stubborn display from his side than the one they produced in the 2-1 defeat at Rotherham last Friday.
However, Norwich were superior in the first half and the visitors had goalkeeper Marco Silvestre to thank for keeping the score goalless with saves denying Nathan Redmond and Alexander Tettey.
Silvestre was powerless to prevent the Canaries taking the lead just before the hour mark as Martin rose unchallenged in the box to head home.
But the home side were pegged back almost straight away when Brazilian midfielder Adryan - making his first start for Leeds - found Frenchman Doukara, who stroked a low shot past John Ruddy.
Norwich had a late penalty shout for what they felt was a handball against Jason Pearce but they were waved away by referee Mark Clattenburg, leaving the home side to rue two dropped points in their quest for an immediate return to the Premier League.
