More than 8,200 people have taken part in Sunday's Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running.

Organisers said 46% of those involved were coming from outside Scotland.

A new event added to this year's festival sought to find Scotland's fastest clan.

People with surnames such as Cameron, Campbell, Macleod, Macdonald and Macrae were invited to take part in the marathon and River Ness 10k.

The Clan Challenge was held as part of the Year of Homecoming Scotland 2014.

The race programme included the marathon, River Ness 10k, a 10k corporate challenge, 5k and the Wee Nessie run for children.

The events were held on roads near Loch Ness, the River Ness and Inverness.
