Mistress MacKenzie and Friends

Comedy about a life guru and agony aunt who picks out her favourite problem letters from those sent to her radio show and dispenses controversial and inappropriate advice.

Mistress MacKenzie is a woman in her late sixties who lives alone in her cozy but haunted guest house, The Midgie View. But her remote location does not stop her from being a prominent life guru and she-jay. Not only does she broadcasts a lifestyle show from her Garden Shed Studio she also dispenses wisdom via her twitter page and her column in The Strathbungle Chronicle.

She encourages the women of Scotland to get in contact with their problems via any medium, but the biggest problem and the reason for her popularity is Mistress MacKenzie herself since Mistress Mac's advice is taken from gossip, Folklore and The Old Testament - so it is generally controversial, inappropriate, dangerous and libellous.

The problem reading is followed by sketches featuring the characters behind the correspondence (all played by Keara Murphy) - so Mistress sets up the scenario and we see what happens to them when they take on Mistress Mac's advice.

Strathbungle is a remote county in the Northern Highlands and has retained some very strange, mystical and ancient customs. Mistress's local village is Glenclootie (Valley of the Devil). Mistress also gives lifestyle talks in Glenclootie Town Hall and is an active advice-giver in her community.

Mistress MacKenzie and Friends is written and performed by Keara Murphy.

Guest stars Colin McCredie.

The Producer is Gus Beattie.

Mistress MacKenzie and Friends is a Comedy Unit Production for BBC Radio Scotland.
