  2. West Yorkshire's weather: Cloudy with patchy outbreaks of rain

    This evening will be cloudy with patchy outbreaks of rain spreading from the west.

    Minimum temperature of about 10C (50F). Moderate southwest wind. 

    Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with showers, locally heavy especially later with the risk of thunder. Much cooler. Maximum temperature 14C (57F). Light and variable wind.

    A dog owner has installed CCTV after her pet ate a sausage roll laced with rat poison, left outside her home near a popular West Yorkshire beauty spot. 

    Police have issued a warning after the incident close to Coxley Woods on the outskirts of Wakefield.

  4. Travel update: One lane blocked M1 soutbound at J42 (M62 Lofthouse)

  5. Samira Lupidi: Mother guilty of murdering daughters

    More on the news that Samira Lupidi has been sentenced to life for murdering her two daughters.

    Bradford Crown Court heard Lupidi and her girls ended up in a refuge in November after she called police to her home in West Yorkshire.

    She told officers her partner Carl Weaver, 31, had slapped her twice the night before, though one of the officers told the jury there were no visible injuries.  

    Lupidi, an Italian national, killed the two girls the morning after she moved to the refuge.

    Prosecutors said she stabbed the girls to death because she feared she may lose them to her partner.

    Peter Moulson QC said that moments after the killings Lupidi told a member of staff: "It's his fault. Now he has a reason to kill me. If I can't have them, he can't have them either.

  7. Police arrest man over the death of a 60-year-old woman

    Police have arrested a man in his sixties in connection with the death of a woman from Leeds last week.

    60-year-old Glynnis Woodhead died in Leeds General Infirmary from what police are describing as an internal head injury. 

    Officers are treating the death as unexplained and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour in the area of Tinshill Mount and Tinshill Avenue last week. 

    The man has been released on bail and investigations are ongoing.

  8. Firefighters begin to leave Ilkley Moor after blaze

    Firefighters are beginning to pull out of Ilkley Moor following the second wildfire there in just over a week.

    The latest started yesterday afternoon close to The Cow and Calf pub and needed over 40 firefighters to bring under control. 

    Fire chiefs are telling people to be vigilant, and not to light fires or barbecues on the moor.

    A mother who stabbed her two young daughters to death has been  jailed for life and must serve a minimum of 24 years in prison. 

    Earlier this afternoon Samira Lupidi, 24, was found guilty of the murder of 17-month-old Jasmine Weaver and three-year-old Evelyn Lupidi at a refuge in Bradford in November.

  12. Yorkshire's Joe Root named the ECB's Test, one-day and Supporters' Player of the Year

    England and Yorkshire batsman Joe Root won both Test and One Day International honours at the England and Wales Cricket Board's awards dinner last night. 

    The 25-year-old was also voted Player of the Year by England supporters.

  13. Ducklings 'battered to death' in Halton Moor

    Several ducklings have reportedly been beaten to death by a group of children, prompting a police investigation.

    Officers believe the animals were attacked in an area known as the Beck in Halton Moor, Leeds.

    A wildlife sanctuary which is caring for a surviving duckling said they were "battered with a stick", before a 10-year-old boy rescued one, reported the Yorkshire Evening Post.

    A dry and sunny afternoon across Leeds and West Yorkshire. We will enjoy further sunny spells into this afternoon and it'll remain dry for most, although it will turn a little cloudier.

    Light winds with temperature highs today of about 19C (66F). 

    This evening we'll see outbreaks of rain spread from the west overnight, some of these heavy. Strengthening south westerly winds although remaining quite mild, with a temperature low of about 11C (52F).

    A mother found guilty at Bradford Crown Court of murdering her two young daughters sobbed as the verdict was delivered.

    Samira Lupidi, 24, stabbed 17-month-old Jasmine Weaver and three-year-old Evelyn Lupidi at a women's refuge in Bradford in November last year.

    Lupidi admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, but denied murdering the girls.

    She was found guilty of both murders by a jury of six men and six women after 90 minutes of deliberation.

    There were shouts of "yes" from the packed public gallery as the verdicts were read out.
