CCTV images released after garden business burglary
Police have released CCTV images of three men they want to trace in relation to a break-in at a gardening business.

Burglars stole a "significant" amount of garden machinery and tools during the raid on Alun’s Garden Machinery in Spa Road, Askern at about 01:00 on Saturday 28 May.
South Yorkshire Police say the three men pictured may hold vital information about the break-in.

The decision followed a lengthy bidding process aimed at saving BHS, which went into administration in April.
But none of the offers was judged acceptable by administrators Duff & Phelps, who blamed "seismic shifts" in the retail sector for the collapse.
All 163 BHS stores, including shops in Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Meadowhall, will be holding closing sales over the coming weeks.

We've heard of knife and gun amnesties; but carpets?
A social enterprise in Doncaster says unwanted carpets mean that 400,000 tonnes of them end up in landfill sites in the UK each year.
To help reduce that figure 'Made by U' says it wants people to get rid of the carpets they'd throw away so it can recycle or refurbish them, with the proceeds helping homeless people.

Appeal to trace missing man
Police are appealing for help to trace a man who has been missing from his home for nearly a month.

Robert Norton, 56, who lives in Gateshead, was last seen in the Maltby area of Rotherham on 7 May. He went missing shortly after telling a family member he planned to walk to his sister's house in Oldham but did not arrive.
Northumbria Police said both his family and police are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.
Mr Norton is described as white, around 5ft1in tall, of slim build and with short brown hair. He was last seen wearing dark jeans, a navy polo top and a jacket.

Somme anniversary to be honoured at Weston Park
The 4,898 Sheffield men who died during the First World War are to be honoured with a new dedicated plaque and march – on the 100th anniversary of the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Sheffield City Council has nominated Weston Park as a ‘Centenary Field’, as part of a national initiative being led by the Fields in Trust and the Royal British Legion.
A parade, open to the public, will take place in Weston Park from 11:00 on Friday 1 July followed by the dedication of the new plaque.

People in Sheffield are being urged to offer the use of a spare room to help a young homeless person.
The charity Nightstop is looking for those who're willing to offer rooms for a few nights to help vulnerable young people who might otherwise be on the streets.
It says "many young people sofa-surf which can lead to unsafe places to sleep, whilst others stay on the streets. Helping these individuals isn't the responsibility of just the families, the professionals, the friends, but rather the responsibility of the whole community."

A woman from Sheffield who's gone to work in Los Angeles, found herself caught up in yesterday's shooting at UCLA.
25-year-old Dr Abby Hackford from Mosborough - who's a neuroscientist at the university - was forced to hide behind a filing cabinet as two people were shot dead on the campus.
A gun was recovered from the scene, along with an apparent suicide note. Abby's dad, Gary Dickinson, says the family's still in shock:

Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly woman suffered life-threatening injuries when she was knocked down by a car.

The woman was struck by a black Vauxhall Astra in Selborne Road near to Sandygate Road, in the Crosspool area of Sheffield at about 09.50 this morning.
South Yorkshire Police have asked for anyone who saw the collision to come forward.

'It's an exciting time' - New Rotherham boss Alan Stubbs

Rotherham United's new manager Alan Stubbs has said the job is a "great opportunity" as he starts his first day as Millers manager.
The 43-year-old, who left Hibs to succeed Neil Warnock, has signed a three-year contract and brings with him John Doolan as his assistant.
Stubbs has told the club's website: "It is an exciting time and I am really looking forward to getting my teeth into this challenge, and bringing some exciting players into the football club."
Woman pedestrian seriously hurt in Sheffield collision
The accident happened at about 10:00 on Selbourne Road near Sandygate Road, off the A57 Manchester Road.
Routes around Selbourne Road remain closed while emergency services deal with the crash.
The roads are expected to re-open within the next hour.
