Have you ever wondered what the money you put into a parking meter gets spent on?

North Yorkshire County Council has announced it's to use surplus revenue from on-street parking to fund "sustainable transport initiatives", address air quality and support major road scheme development.

Up to £500,000 a year is to be used to develop the following major schemes in order to attract government funding:

• A59 Kex Gill realignment
• Harrogate relief road review
• A1(M)/A59 junction 47
• A59 climbing lanes

Why is a side that dominates the County Championship struggling so badly in limited overs cricket?

It's a question that many Yorkshire supporters are scratching their head over.

With only one defeat in almost two years in four-day cricket, Jason Gillespie's team have already lost all three of their T20 Blast matches this season. 

However, last night their season reached a new low when Worcestershire beat them so easily at Headingley.

Let's hope they play a bit better in their next home match at North Marine Road in Scarborough next Tuesday!

In the closing days of the EU referendum campaign, on the evening of Monday 20 June, BBC Radio York will hold a special EU debate in York - and we'd like you to be part of the audience. 

The live debate will be hosted by Len Tingle, BBC Yorkshire's Political Editor, and starts at 19:00.

Cast your mind back to the end of last year and the start of 2016 and the terrible flooding that affected many parts of North Yorkshire.

Today, councillors are analysing the problems whjch were faced in Scarborough, Staithes and Whitby as Storm Frank moved into the North Sea, causing 28 properties to be flooded.

For a brief time all major routes into Whitby also became impassable.  

This is one of a series of reports councillors are reviewing that set out the impact of the flooding on parts of North Yorkshire, affecting more than 600 homes and businesses across the county.

Police have given us more details about the serious accident that closed the A19 near Easingwold a little earlier.

It involved a Seat Leon and a male cyclist in his 70s. He's been taken by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary suffering from head injuries.

Investigations into the incident are continuing, but the road has now re-opened.

Cast your minds back a few weeks and you may remember a little experiment involving the British astronaut Tim Peake.

He sent thousands of seeds back from the International Space station to see whether the time they'd spent in orbit, would help or hinder their growth once back on Earth compared to those that had stayed here.

Headteacher Nick Oswald tells me that although they won't get the results until next week, there is a marked difference:

It seems it's a big day for York Art Gallery today after it was shortlisted earlier this year for the Art Fund Museum of the Year 2016 Award.

Art Fund judges are visiting the gallery, which recently reopened after an £8m refurbishment, to consider it for the £100,000 prize.

The gallery's up against four other museums and galleries across the countr, including the Victoria and Albert in London.

North Yorkshire Police may only be a week into their summer drink and drug driving campaign, but already they've caught many people breaking the law according to this tweet. 

When will people learn?

After a relatively quiet morning on North Yorkshire's roads, we've now had reports of two accidents in quick succession.

The A19 continues to be closed just south of Easingwold near Alne.

But now we're also hearing of problems on the A165 Moor Road in Filey where there's been a collision between two vehicles close to the junctions of Primrose Valley Road and Sands Road.

You probably saw the amazing pictures from Flying Scotsman's inaugural journey from London Kings Cross to York back in February.

Thousands of people lined the route, but police were left concerned by the amount of trespassers who made their way onto the line to get that little bit closer to the world's most famous locomotive.

Last month, when she made her way north of York, it seems some didn't heed the warnings to stay off the track and now British Transport Police have issued pictures of people they'd like to speak to after incidents in Northallerton and Thirsk.

Some breaking travel news for you now, which will be of great interest if you're planning on making your way towards Thirsk or to York on the A19.

We're getting reports of an accident just south of Easingwold which means the road is currently closed and traffic is beginning to build up in the area.

People travel from around the world to sample Whitby's famous fish and chips. But some fear the EU referendum could damage the North Yorkshire town's dish.

Whitby's famous food may have an international reputation - but hardly any of the fish fried here is caught by local fishermen. 

The town's fish and chip shops now import fish from places such as Norway, Iceland and Spain. And this theme is reflected across the wider British fishing industry.  

So, what's the mood among Whitby's fishermen and in the town's fish and chip shops ahead of the EU referendum? I've been there to find out more and you can read my findings here.

They say that beauty is only skin deep. You can be stunning to look at, but if what's going on on the inside isn't very nice, then that's a great shame.

But we do tend to be a society that's obsessed with how someone looks.

Amy Elsegood, a dental nurse from Ripon, was born with a port-wine birthmark on her face, but the reaction to her no make-up selfie recently has been remarkable. She tells us her story:

An Asda delivery lorry got stuck under a railway bridge in Harrogate last night.

The lorry attempted to pass under the low bridge on Bower road, near to the Asda store, where it became lodged.
