Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie maintains UK and Ireland box office lead

Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie has maintained its lead at the UK and Ireland box office for a second week in a row.

Based on the hit BBC One TV sitcom, the film took £2.1m, pushing its total takings to more than £9m.

The new Transformers blockbuster made £4.7m after opening on Saturday, but is ineligible for the chart which covers releases from Friday to Sunday.

Comic outing Tammy was the only new entry on the film rundown, landing at five with £471,429.

Transformers: Age of Extinction is widely anticipated to displace the Mrs Brown film in next week's box office, while How To Train Your Dragon 2 is another summer blockbuster expected to perform well.

The movie has already appeared in the chart due to early release in Scotland and Ireland and previews in England, climbing up two places to number four this week.

The Fault In Our Stars and 22 Jump Street maintained their positions at two and three respectively.

Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie, a vehicle for comedy actor Brendan O'Carroll's female alter-ego, sees the indomitable Agnes Brown embark on a campaign to save her endangered market stall.

The Universal Pictures and BBC Films co-production opened at 522 sites across the UK and Ireland last week, achieving an impressive site average of £8,240.

It helped the film post first weekend takings of £4.3 million - just less than the rest of the top five put together.

It also scored the largest opening-day total of an Irish film in Ireland.
