Two people had a "very lucky escape" from a rush hour crash on the M5 in Somerset, police have said.
A Land Rover collided with a van, hit the central reservation and overturned several times on the southbound stretch between junctions 23 and 24.
Police said a safety barrier "stopped the vehicle from plunging down a vertical drop of about 160ft".
A man and a woman were taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
The crash, which involved a Ford Transit van, happened at 8:55 BST. Two lanes of the southbound carriageway were closed while the Land Rover was recovered.
The injured woman, 60, was driving the Land Rover and the man was her passenger, Avon and Somerset Police said.
PC Owen Davies said: This was a very lucky escape for the occupants of the Land Rover, as the safety barrier did its job and stopped the vehicle from plunging down a vertical drop of about 160ft."
