Former 1Xtra DJ Robbo Ranx has branded the people in charge of running the station as 'out of touch.'

Robbo Ranx left the radio station this week after more than 10 years on air.

In a statement released on social media he said: "Unfortunately, this current failure of black music on @1Xtra isn't by accident. As long as we have decision makers who are out of touch and ignore culture that is ingrained in black music this type of story will continue to play out".

BBC Radio 1Xtra have responded by saying: "We'd like to thank Robbo for his commitment and passion at 1Xtra over the last 12 years and wish him every success in the future.

''A new chapter begins in 1Xtra history next week with a refreshed line up and we will continue to reflect the best in dancehall, bashment, reggae and soca on the daytime playlist. Our commitment to Jamaican music continues with a new Seani B Dancehall show Thursday 10pm-1am and David Rodigan's successful Sunday night programme 7pm-9pm."

Robbo Ranx presented the black music station's weekly specialist dancehall show since 1Xtra launched in 2002.

Earlier this year 1Xtra controller Ben Cooper announced changes to the station's schedule.

Robbo Ranx time slot will be replaced by a brand new show which aims to deliver 'Bashment vibes from the Caribbean and beyond.'

It will be presented by Seani B.

In July 1Xtra had to defend itself after announcing that Ed Sheeran topped its "Power List".

Critics thought it perverse that a white singer was voted number one on a station that champions black music.

Grime artist Wiley was one of the most high profile faces to voice his opinions.

In a series of Twitter posts he wrote that black artists had been "bumped".

The 1Xtra Power List top five also included Rudimental, Sam Smith, Tinie Tempah and Disclosure.

Speaking back in July when the list was released Austin Daboh BBC Radio 1Xtra's music manager said: "Every single day of the week, every single hour of the day we support black artists and other races that make black music sounds.

"I think that anyone who wants to bring race into the discussion is probably a little bit misguided."

Listeners helped vote for some of the names on the Power List, with the final order being chosen by DJs and music industry experts.

Sales, social network followers, radio plays and quality of music were just some of the criteria they voted on.
