Alan Pardew: Crystal Palace given permission to start talks

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has been given permission to talk to Crystal Palace about taking over at Selhurst Park.
The two clubs have agreed compensation for Pardew to succeed Neil Warnock, who was sacked on Saturday.
Pardew will not take training on Tuesday, Newcastle confirmed.
Palace are without a manager after dismissing Warnock just four months into his second spell in charge of the South London club.
Newcastle released a statement on Monday night confirming assistant manager John Carver will take training instead.
It also said: "Crystal Palace have offered compensation at a level whereby Alan has now been permitted to speak to them."
The Eagles are in the Premier League relegation zone after winning only three league games this season.
Keith Millen, who worked under Warnock and predecessors Tony Pulis and Ian Holloway, acted as caretaker for Palace's 0-0 draw with Queens Park Rangers on Sunday and had expressed an interest in the job.

Pardew, 53, has been Newcastle manager since December 2010 and is currently the fourth longest-serving manager in English football, after Arsenal's Arsene Wenger, Exeter City's Paul Tisdale and Karl Robinson of MK Dons.
The former Reading, West Ham, Southampton and Charlton boss steered Newcastle to a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League in 2012 and is under contract at St James' Park until 2020. They are currently ninth in the table ahead of a home game against Burnley on New Year's Day, having ended a run of three Premier League defeats with a 3-2 victory over Everton on Sunday.
Supporters on Tyneside called for Pardew to be sacked earlier this season when Newcastle were in the bottom three at the start of October after failing to win any of their opening seven league games and a record of just five wins since the start of the 2014.
And Pardew has strong links with Palace having spent four years playing in their midfield from 1987.
He scored the winning goal as the Eagles beat Liverpool 4-3 after extra-time in a 1990 FA Cup semi-final and played in the final and the subsequent replay as Manchester United won 1-0.
