Thousands of miners at South Africa's biggest platinum mining firms returned to work, a day after unions signed a wage deal to end a five-month strike. It has been the biggest dispute in the mining industry since the 2012 Marikana massacre when 34 striking miners were shot dead by police.
A security officer was killed when a suicide bomber detonated a car bomb near a Lebanese army checkpoint in the capital, Beirut. The blast, which caused a huge fire, occurred in a southern suburb mainly inhabited by Shia Muslims.
