  6. Oxfordshire dementia care home first to get 'outstanding' CQC rating

    An Oxfordshire care home specialising in care for people with dementia has become the first in the county to be rated "outstanding" by the CQC.

    Vale House is a 40-bed specialist dementia home in Sandford, having moved there from Botley in 2012.

    The county council currently buys 25 of the 40 beds in the home and says it's aiming for the same level at other homes in the area.

  7. Firefighters complete 1,000-mile charity bike ride

    A group of fundraising firefighters have completed their 1,006-mile cycle ride from John O'Groats to Land's End.

    The 16 cyclists from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service set off on 13 May to raise £100,000 for the Fire Fighters Charity.

    Their epic journey was inspired by former colleague Joe Wilkins from Eynsham, who died after his bike was hit a by car near Appleton in 2012.

  8. Men bailed after female police officers hurt in Didcot

    Detectives investigating how two police officers became injured in Didcot have bailed two men. 

    They were both arrested after one female officer suffered head injuries and the other a damaged wrist.

    It happened on the main road between the army barracks and Great Western Park yesterday. 

    Both officers were treated in hospital but have now been discharged.

  9. Body removed from Banbury house

    Earlier, police said a 63-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder following an "unexplained" death of a man.

    There's a warning that people in Oxfordshire are putting their lives at risk because they're not aware of different types of heart disease and their symptoms.

    A new survey shows 97% of over 60s in Oxford don't know what heart valve disease is, despite it killing more people than most cancers if left untreated.

  12. Oxford NHS trust admits bed-blocking problems

    An Oxford NHS trust has admitted they have not been able to deal with bed-blocking in the city's hospitals as much as they have wanted.

    Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust has come top of a league table for bed-blocking, in a survey by the National Audit Office.

    The trust says it has recruited more than 60 care staff to help patients move back home after they are medically fit to be discharged from hospital.

  18. Abingdon fish pond - threat to burglars?

    An Abingdon man, Kevin Sheehan, says he has been told by a housing association to stop work building a pond in his back garden because he was told it could injure burglars. 

    But Sovereign says the pond needs to be safe for everyone, whether that's someone living there or visiting a property. A spokesman also pointed out the housing association was liable if someone did trespass on the property.
