  2. New shops rejected in Beverley

    Councillors have turned down an application to double the number of small shops at the Flemingate Shopping Centre (pictured) in Beverley.

    They said it would have a significant adverse effect on Beverley town centre.

  4. Listen: 999 call that helped prosecute robbers who targeted a Hull bank

    Earlier today, a gang of six armed robbers who targeted a Lloyds TSB bank in Hull were jailed for between 12 and 16 years.

    The six men from Liverpool all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery after stealing up to £1.5m from 23 raids across the north of England.

  5. Police trains warning ahead of Hull City's Wembley appearance

    The British Transport Police say they will have extra officers on the trains to Wembley on Saturday as Hull City appear in the Championship Play-off final.

    Fans of The Tigers and Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday will be travelling in similar directions to the stadium for the match.

    Some trains back to Hull after the game will also have alcohol bans in place.

  6. Concern proposed windfarm 'might have a negative impact on wildlife'

    A decision will now be made in August about a 300-turbine windfarm off the East Yorkshire coast.

    The government says it needs more time to consider what impact the proposed Hornsea Offshore Windfarm might have on North Sea wildlife.

    There is particular concern about the harbour porpoise (pictured).

  7. Decision on 45 mile pipeline across East Yorkshire postponed

    A decision on whether to allow a 45-mile pipeline to be built from the Drax Power Station (pictured) near Selby to the coast at Barmston has been put off until the end of August. 

    The government says more time is needed after the White Rose Carbon Capture project hit the buffers in April.

    The pipeline would have taken carbon dioxide away from the plant to be stored under the North Sea.

  9. Listen: Hull man whose invention has saved lives at sea

    I've been talking on BBC Radio Humberside this morning to a man from Hull who has saved numerous lives.

    David Marshall was lost at sea for two hours in the Pacific Ocean in 1960, fearing he would either drown or be eaten by sharks.

    He went on to invent a radio beacon that automatically locates people in the water:

  10. Humberside Police respond to IPCC complaint

    Humberside Police have responded to the news that five of their members of staff have been given a final written warning for their treatment of a man in custody who had two broken legs.

    Two sergeants and two officers left the man naked in a cell for five hours following a strip search, a detention officer who also received a final warning is appealing against the decision.

  12. Expansion for Bridlington Park and Ride

    Bridlington's Park and Ride service will begin to pick up and drop people off from outside the new Leisure Centre from this weekend.

    The bus will stop outside of the centre, which opened on Monday, on weekends and on bank holidays.

    The Park and Ride will also run until 20:00 during the school summer holidays, which begin in July.

    The buses run from the South Cliff car park every 15-30 minutes.

  13. Does Bridlington need a town crier?

    Politicians in Bridlington are deciding whether the resort needs a town crier.

  16. Five Humberside officers given final written warnings over prisoner abuse

    Five Humberside police officers including two sergeants have been given final written warnings after a man with two broken legs was dragged into a police station, strip searched and left in a cell.

    Officers Edmund Richardson and Kevin Dodgson and sergeants David Beer and Nicholas Hunt were given the final warnings after an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

    A detention officer at the Clough Road station in Hull is appealing against the final written warning he was given over the incident involving a 49-year-old man in February 2014.

  17. Sport: Hull KR's Terry Campese injured for Saturday's match

    Hull Kingston Rovers captain Terry Campese (pictured) has been ruled out of the trip to France to face the Catalans Dragons on Saturday.

    Despite making his return in the weekend derby loss to Hull FC, the Robins have opted not to risk his hamstring problem due to the short turnaround and the long journey to Perpignan.  

  18. Hull Marina lock gates broken

    The lock gates at Hull Marina have broken, meaning boats have been unable to get in or out. 

    The technical fault was discovered this morning and engineers are checking the gates during the afternoon.

    They are hoping to fix them before the next high tide allows boats to pass by at 7.15pm.

  20. Campaign to save historic school in Brough suffers setback

    Historic England has turned down an application to give 54 Elloughton Road (pictured) listed status. 

    It will come as a blow to campaigners who want to stop the developers McCarthy and Stone demolishing it and providing retirement homes.

    In a statement Historic England says few signs remain of the building's former role as a boarding school and it's not significant enough on a national level.
