    After a very windy day the blustery showers will mostly die out by late evening, with some clear spells developing overnight. Minimum temperature: 2C (36F).

    Much of Tuesday will be dry across the county with some sunny spells, and just the chance of an odd shower during the afternoon. It will feel more pleasant than today with lighter winds. 

  3. Stolen replica Postman Pat van took 'months' to make

    A stolen replica of a Postman Pat red post van took months to convert from an £800 micro-car, said owner Ross Taylor.

    The van, owned by a Pymoor-based crisp firm, was taken late last month. Postman Pat's black and white cat Jess was on board and is also missing.  

    "It's very complicated to start, so I think they must have lifted it onto a truck," Mr Taylor told the BBC.

  4. Howling success: Cambridge researchers create 'howl database'

    A study of howling in wolves could could "shed light" on the early evolution of human language, according to researchers at Cambridge University.

    The researchers created a database of 6,000 howls recorded from both captive and wild members of the candid family, including these wolves howling in Montana.  

    Dr Arik Kershenbaum, who led the study, said: "Wolves may not be close to us taxonomically, but ecologically their behaviour in a social structure is remarkably close to that of humans." 

  5. Football: Ryan Ledson and Darnell Furlong extend Cambridge United loans

    Everton midfielder Ryan Ledson (pictured) and QPR defender Darnell Furlong have extended their loan deals with Cambridge United for a further month.

    Ledson, 18, has featured in 14 games for the U's since joining in November.

    Full-back Furlong, 20, has made five appearances for Shaun Derry's side, and also played in 10 games on loan at Northampton Town earlier this season.

  8. Tributes left for killed Cambridge student

    Candles and flowers were left outside the Italian embassy in Cairo over the weekend in tribute to Cambridge student Giulio Regeni, who was killed in the city while carrying out research for his PhD.

  9. Police taking 'no further action' after reports of man with machete

    Police say "no further action" is taking place after reports of a man with a machete near Longsands Academy in St Neots.

    The school was put on lockdown for a while this afternoon while a search of the area was conducted.

    A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Police told us they are "unable to speculate" as to whether it was a case of mistaken identity or a hoax.  

  10. School put on lockdown in St Neots after reports of 'man with machete'

    Longsands Academy in St Neots was put on lockdown this afternoon after reports of a man with a machete in the area just after 13:00.

    Police said they conducted a thorough search but no-one was found. The lockdown has since been lifted.

  11. Italy demands answers over student's Cairo death

    Italy's foreign minister says he will not settle for "alleged truths" from Egypt over the death of Cambridge University student Giulio Regeni in Cairo.

    Egypt's privately-owned Al-Yawm al-Sabi news website, quoting the Egyptian Forensic Medicine Authority, said on Monday that Regeni "died instantly" after being hit with a "sharp tool on the back and front of his head".

    But Italy's Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said on Sunday that a second autopsy performed in Italy "confronted us with something inhuman, something animal".

  12. 7,000 tickets for Cambridge Science Festival booked in first two hours

    Seven thousand tickets for the Cambridge Science Festival were snapped up this morning in just two hours of them going on sale.

    The annual two-week festival, which this year runs from 7 to 20 March, will see more than 300 events staged in the city, with a theme of examining the growing interaction between humans and technology.

    About 45,000 people attended the festival last year.

  13. Football: Nine-man Peterborough hold on to beat Chesterfield 0-1

    Tom Nichols (pictured) scored the only goal as nine-man Peterborough United held on for a dramatic win at Chesterfield in League One.

    Posh are three points away from the League One play-off places following the result.

    Peterborough manager Graham Westley said"They were sensational when we had nine men, backs to the wall. It was all about work ethic, desire, hunger, organisation and resilience".

  14. Reward offered for stolen Postman Pat van

    The owner of a stolen replica Postman Pat van is offering a £2,000 reward or "a lifetime's supply of crisps" to get it back.

    Ross Taylor from Pymoor-based Corkers Crisps says he believes the thieves will find it difficult to sell after the crime was widely publicised on social media.

    Police launched an appeal for information last week, as reported in the Ely News.

  15. Cambridge researchers carry out 'largest ever study of howling'

    Wolves and domestic dogs have their own "dialects", according to researchers at the University of Cambridge, who have completed the largest-ever study of howling.

    Experts used computer algorithms for the first time to analyse howling, distilling over 2,000 different howls from members of the Canid family.

    Dr Arik Kershenbaum said it showed the various species had "distinguishing repertoires of howling", resembling vocal dialects.

  16. Environment Agency carrying out work on the Old Bedford River

    "Desilting" is taking place on the Old Bedford River, on the Ouse Washes, to allow the water to flow more freely and prevent flooding.

    Darren Trumper, operations team leader for the Environment Agency, said almost half a mile of river had been cleared so far with three to four weeks' more work left to do.

    With eight minutes left, the captain finally beat the excellent visiting keeper Mark Cousins after Joe Worrall brought down Robbie Simpson. 

    Cambridge manager Shaun Derry told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire the poor weather led to a "horrible game". "I knew it was going to be like that as soon as I arrived today, but we found a way," he said.
