Great Yorkshire AirFest cancelled after 'challenging year'

BBC Local Live, York
This year's Great Yorkshire AirFest, due to take place at Church Fenton on 2 July, has been cancelled after a "challenging year" for the airshow community, organisers have said.
It follows the aircraft crash at the Shoreham Airshow last year which left 11 people dead.
In a statement, the people behind the Great Yorkshire AirFest say various factors led to the "difficult decision", including increased fees and a slow uptake in ticket sales.

The Machine Stops: Did EM Forster predict the internet age?
Chris Long
Arts and Entertainment Reporter
A futuristic world portrayed in a new production now on at York Theatre Royal is an eerily familiar one - people mostly communicate via screens, the rarity of face-to-face interaction has rendered it awkward, and knowledge and ideas are shared by a system linking every home.
Ben BentleyCopyright: Ben Bentley
Yet the world as seen in The Machine Stops was imagined not by a contemporary writer but by the Edwardian author E.M. Forster, best known for novels such as Howards End, A Room With A View and A Passage To India.
It's a world where travel is rare, inhabitants communicate via video screens, and people have become so reliant on the Machine, they've begun to worship it as a living entity. I've been to York Theatre Royal to find out more.
Weather: Cloudy with some sunny spells and rain to come later
It starts cloudy but dry, gets sunny later...and then there's rain to come.

More now on the cancellation of the Great Yorkshire AirFest.
The event was due to happen at Church Fenton in July, but has been cancelled after what organisers described as a "challenging year".
All those who have bought tickets will be refunded, the people behind the event have said.
Organisers say the decision to cancel was a difficult one and increased fees to the Civil Aviation Authority and low ticket sales are partly to blame.
