A sheepdog originally from a farm in Ceredigion appears to have made the 240-mile solo journey back to its birthplace from its new home in Cumbria.

Pero, a four-year-old working sheepdog, escaped from Cockermouth on April 8 only to reappear on the doorstep of Alan and Shan James' Farm near Aberystwyth a fortnight later.

Reds manager Derek Townsley has told BBC Radio Cumbria Sport that he hopes that Workington can give their fans something else to cheer about in the Evo-Stik Premier playoffs tomorrow night.

His side travel to Blyth for their semi-final after a 5-0 win against Buxton at the weekend. 

Derek Townsley said: "It does our confidence the world of good on that score so let's hope that the lads are still full of confidence going into Tuesday night.

"Again, anything can happen in these type of games.

"It'll be settled on the night so in many ways played very much like a cup tie."

There'll be full match commentary of the game on BBC Radio Cumbria Sport with match build-up starting at 18:00 tomorrow.

Carlisle United has said in a statement on its website that the club's chairman is 'disappointed' to see their fan representative Claire Wilder resign from the board of directors. 

In the last few hours, she posted a letter explaining why she was leaving the club on social media including claims that she was accused of 'breaking confidentiality'.

Chairman Andrew Jenkins said: “The Fan Representative role is an important initiative and we would like to thank Claire for her contribution throughout this season. 

"We’re disappointed that she has decided to leave at this stage.

“The role is a difficult balance between the openness and the essential business confidentiality needed to operate successfully.

"It’s a valued and new position which we hope we can maintain going into next season and beyond.”

Here's what we know so far about the resignation of Carlisle United's fan representative, Claire Winder from the club's board of directors.

In a letter posted to social media, she writes she no longer believes "it is possible to carry out the role in an open and honest manner".

Here are some of the claims from the letter:

• that during a discussion before a board meeting on 21 April 2016, there was an allegation that she had "breached confidentiality" in an article written for the 28 March 2016 programme.
• that the discussion wasn't recorded in any minutes because it took place before the meeting began.
• that there was 'ample opportunity' to discuss the alleged breach of confidentiality between 28 March and 21 April
• that the board meeting was an inappropriate place to discussed the breach and that the allegation should have been minuted because it concerned her responsibilities as a director.

The club have said in a statement that they're disappointed to see her resign.

Another update now on the West Coast Main Line where the line is still closed between Preston and Carlisle.

The disruption is likely to last until at least 17:00 as engineers continue working to move a broken down train at Carnforth.

Virgin Trains is advising passengers not to travel and those that do should expect delays of up to 90 minutes.

A rail replacement bus service is stopping at stations between Preston and Carlisle until the line can be reopened.

A new "rock armour" sea defence at Parton near Whitehaven will help protect the Cumbrian Coast line from sea flooding, according to Network Rail.

Fifteen thousand tonnes of rock have been installed at the base of the sea wall by Network Rail engineers which will help to absorb the energy of the waves lapping against the line. 

Engineers had to transport the rock at low tide and while trains continued to run.

A man from Barrow will represent his club and country in Canada after being called up to be part of the English squad for the Roller Derby World Cup 2016.

Samuel Fish, 25, works at the Barrow Shipyard.

He only took up the sport last year and plays for the South Cumbrian club Barrow Infernos.

The Barrow Infernos explain on their website that "roller derby is a full-contact sport played on quad roller skates, by players skating around an elliptical track. The game consists of a series of two-minute countdown jams."

An amendment put forward by a Cumbrian member of the House of Lords that asks the Government to take 3,000 unaccompanied child refugees from camps in Europe will be debated today.

The amendment to the Immigration Bill put forward by Lord Dubs, who lives in both Cockermouth and London, is expected to be backed by at least ten Conservative MPs when it is discussed in the House of Commons.

However, Home Secretary Theresa May said that the Government is acting in a range of areas to help vulnerable children.

She said: "The question we need to ask ourselves is what is in the best interests of these children.

"That is about children at risk coming from the region, not just unaccompanied children." 

Yesterday, fellow Cumbrian, MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale and Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron told Andrew Marr that child refugees face exploitation while they stay in the camps:

A group has succeeded in its bid to raise £15,000 for improvements to a cross country walk on the boundary between Cumbria and Yorkshire. 

A crowdfunding campaign called Raising the Standard set up by the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Partnership has raised £16,405 from 112 people.

The money will pay for new stone flags to be laid on a section of Alfred Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk crossing Nine Standards Rigg near Kirkby Stephen.

Walkers have had to be rescued in the past because they became stuck up to their waists in boggy peat.

A year on from the devastating earthquake in Nepal, a Cumbrian climber is trying the climb the mountain he was on when the quake struck.

It's Nick Talbot's third attempt to reach the summit of Everest and raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

His father Keith Talbot who lives in Kentmere near Kendal says that the signs are looking good so far.

"He's doing better than he's done before on any expedition", he said.

"He seems to have been more susceptible to infections mainly because he's got Cystic Fibrosis and subsidiary problems such as not being to eat as much as normal but this year's he's doing really well.

"At the moment, he's at camp two."

The county's newspapers have racked up 12 nominations in the Society of Editors Regional Press Awards 2015.

The Westmorland Gazette (weekly newspaper above 20,000), The Cumberland News (weekly newspaper below 20,000) and The News and Star (daily/sunday newspaper below 20,000) have all been shortlisted for best newspaper in their category.

The Cumberland News has also received two nominations for Campaign of the Year, one for Supplement of the Year and one for Front Page of the Year:

I've been finding out more about how university researchers hope to get to the bottom of a little-understood ruined castle in Furness which is one of the county's most at-risk structures.

Many people are unaware of the existence of the Grade I-listed Gleaston Castle which is now included in a privately owned farm and not open to the public.

The Morecambe Bay Partnership and the University of Central Lancashire will spend this week surveying the site in the hope that it'll provide a long-term solution for the crumbling ruins. 

Susannah Bleakley from the Morecambe Bay Partnership said: "It'll help us put together a picture of this castle and it'll help us lead on to work that will help us develop a conservation plan because it is in a ruined estate.

"It is in places apparently held together by some very sturdy ivy.

"So we're working very closely with Historic England to create a plan for the future and this is part of that."

A new 20-mile walking route around Ullswater will allow people to walk around the lake for the first time from today.

Some of the communities in the Ullswater valley were affected by December's floods including Pooley Bridge and Glenridding.

The local groups who've worked together to open the Ullswater Way hope it'll give the area a boost ahead of the Summer tourism season. 

The chairman of the Ullswater Association Sue Wallace said:"It's a great opportunity for people to explore parts of Ullswater which they've not explored before, so yes, it's going to be really popular."

Just a quick update on the delays on the West Coast Main Line which has seen the line shut between Preston and Carlisle.

National Rail now expect the disruption to last until 14:00.

Rail replacement buses are running between Preston, Lancaster, Oxenholme Lake District, Penrith and Carlisle to replace cancelled trains. 

Hundreds of people took to Catbells near Keswick and used headtorches to create a path of light all the way up the fell. 

It was to raise money for all of the people who were affected by the earthquakes in Nepal, a year ago.
