  1. Post update

I dunno about you, but I'm going to have to lie down in a dark room after all that drama.

You can read about Andy Murray's epic match here.

We'll be back tomorrow for day five of the French Open.

    Au revoir.

  2. Brit watch

    French Open 2016

So that makes it two Brits left in the French Open.

Kyle Edmund is out, after losing to John Isner in three sets.

Heather Watson is out after losing in straight sets to Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Andy Murray is through (just) and Aljaz Bedene is first up on court six tomorrow against the fantastically named Pablo Carreno Busta.

  3. Post update

    Barry Flatman

Tennis correspondent for the Sunday Times on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"Andy Murray will recover but however strong you are long matches take their toll physically and emotionally.

"He shouldn't be lacking in confidence but it's a mystery how his game has suddenly deflated in the way it did during those second and third sets."

  4. Murray through to third round

    Murray 6-2 2-6 4-6 6-2 6-3 Bourgue

Here's what Andy Murray had to say:

"Mathias was excellent and made me run a lot. He's got a fantastic future for sure.

"I led 6-2 2-0 then he started playing unbelievably and I was finding it hard to win points, let alone games. I've played matches like this before and tried to fight through to the end because opponents can hit a rough patch.

"You can't play too many matches like this if you want to go far in this tournament. I hope to win the next one a little bit faster."

So do we, Andy. So do we.

  5. Murray through in five sets

    Murray 6-2 2-6 4-6 6-2 6-3 Bourgue

Mathias Bourgue's speaking to the crowd. It's at this point I wish I could remember my French GCSE.

Judging by the look on his face, he's a bit overwhelmed. He gets a rousing reception as he walks off with a massive grin on his face.

  6. Post update

    Russell Fuller

    BBC tennis correspondent in Paris

"What an extraordinary performance from Bourgue who played an exceptional game of tennis in set number three after Murray's game went spectacularly off the rails in the second.

"But Murray has done it again and come from behind to win in five sets. Who knows how much this has taken out of his tank and whether he can find the form to challenge the likes of Djokovic and Nadal, but he is the ultimate street fighter and has crawled over the line again."

  7. Game, set and match

    Murray 6-2 2-6 4-6 6-2 6-3 Bourgue

Bourgue can only return into the net. Murray FINALLY seals it.

    What. A. Match.

The crowd are on their feet!

Remember Mathias Bourgue's name. Surely a star for the future.

  8. Match point

    Murray 6-2 2-6 4-6 6-2 5-3 Bourgue*

Three hours and 33 minutes later....

40-30 Murray. His first serve is out. Second serve we go.

  9. Post update

    Murray 6-2 2-6 4-6 6-2 5-3 Bourgue*

Murray serves for the match. Again.

He wins the first point, before a backhand battle ensure and eventually Bourgue wins out with his 25th winner of the match. 15-15.

Bourgue snatches another point! 15-30. Surely he can't break again, can he?

The pair run each other riot. As Bourgue tries to flick a shot over his shoulder from the baseline it goes out. 30-30.

  10. Post update

    *Murray 6-2 2-6 4-6 6-2 5-3 Bourgue

Bourgue is still producing some wonderful winners. His forehand beats Murray and he's 30-15 to the good.

Murray is matching him, though. An angled shot cross-court brings it to 30-30.

And now Bourgue wins an intense rally to make it 40-30 and holds with a whopping back hand. He earns a standing ovation from the Paris crowd.

    This is insane.

  11. Post update

    Murray 6-2 2-6 4-6 6-2 5-2 Bourgue*

Three hours and 25 minutes of typing and I'm exhausted.

How has Bourgue found the energy to break the second seed?!

  12. Bourgue breaks

    Murray 6-2 2-6 4-6 6-2 5-2 Bourgue*

I spoke too soon. Murray is 15-30 down on his service game, after a really shoddy forehand dropped past the baseline.

And then he hits into the net after a long rally. 15-40. Oh heck. Two break points to the Frenchman.

Bourgue fails with the first one. 30-40.

Does he take the second? YES!

    Andy Murray
  13. Murray breaks again

    *Murray 6-2 2-6 4-6 6-2 5-1 Bourgue

Is it safe to look yet?

Murray breaks and he serves for the match!

  14. Post update

    Murray 6-2 2-6 4-6 6-2 4-1 Bourgue*

Mathias Bourgue's error count is growing in this fifth set and Murray is capitalising.

The Scot races into a 40-0 lead...but the Frenchman isn't going to take it lying down.

He claws back to 40-30 before hitting into the net, and Murray holds.

  16. Murray breaks in fifth

    *Murray 6-2 2-6 4-6 6-2 3-1 Bourgue

Here we are then. Is this the turning point?

Murray snatches Bourgue's service game. Crucial timing from the Scot. It's like he's done it all before...

  18. Post update

    Murray 6-2 2-6 4-6 6-2 2-1 Bourgue*

Murray breathes a sigh of relief as Bourgue's shot is ruled out and he pulls back to 30-30.

The Brit moves to 40-30 and an error from the Frenchman sees Murray hold.

This is too close for comfort.

  19. Post update

    *Murray 6-2 2-6 4-6 6-2 1-1 Bourgue

This is a proper battle and the crowd are loving it. The umpire tries to get them to calm down but the cheers get louder.

It turns into comedy boos when Bourgue is adjudged to have put out a second serve on deuce. Break point to Murray.

Bourgue gets it back to deuce with an overhead lob and gains the advantage.

And an outrageously good drop shot sees the Frenchman hold.

    This is BRILLIANT.

Sean West: Hate that Murray is putting us through all this! Sport is the best though, right?

    Hell yeah!
